Academie Minerva is a Dutch art academy. The academy was founded in 1798 in Groningen as a school for arts, architecture, construction engineering, and seamanship.Dijk, F. van (1998) ''Leraren van de Academie Minerva. Otto Eerelman (23 March 1839, Groningen - 3 October 1926, Groningen) was a Dutch painter; best known for his depictions of dogs and horses. Matthijs Röling
Matthijs Nicolaas Röling (born March 31, 1943 in Oostkapelle) is a Dutch painter, active as graphic designer, wall painter, painter, draftsman, lithographer, pen artist, etcher, and academy lecturer. He is considered a kindred spirit of the 3rd generation of the Dutch Group of figurative abstraction. Röling is described as the "figurehead of contemporary figurative painting in the Netherlands." Life and work Röling was educated at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague from 1960 to 1963, and at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam in 1963-1964. His first museum exhibition took place in 1965 in the Drents Museum in Assen. Alida Jantina Pott
Alida Jantina Pott (Groningen, January 8, 1888 - December 23, 1931) was a Dutch visual artist and member of the Groninger art collective De Ploeg. Career Alida Pott was born in Groningen in 1888. She was the daughter of Pieter Hendrik Pott (1858-1905), merchant and shopkeeper, and Lamberta Gerrechiena Heikens (1860-1946). She studied at the Minerva Academy in Groningen and then at the Hague Drawing Academy. In 1912 she graduated as a drawing teacher and returned to Groningen. In 1914 she started working as a drawing teacher at the Kweekschool for teachers. She stayed with this school until 1930. In 1922 she married Gijsbert George Martens. She died of a lung disease in 1931. De Ploeg Alida Pott was one of the first members of the artist collective De Ploeg. Noor Nuyten (born 1986) is a Dutch artist who lives and works in Amsterdam and Brussels Education Nuyten followed a postgraduate program at HISK in Ghent (BE), and studied at Malmö Art Academy (SE) and Art Academy Minerva Groningen (NL). Bert Nienhuis
Lambertus (Bert) Nienhuis (14 November 1873 in Groningen – 1960 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch ceramist, designer and jewelry designer. Life and work Nienhuis was born in Groningen as the son of the broker Lambertus Nienhuis (1834–1890) and Alberdina Good House (1835–1875). He was educated at the Minerva Academy in his hometown and then at the State School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam (Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid Amsterdam). In 1895 he worked for the stoneware factories De Distel in Amsterdam. A year later he founded Lotus Tile Bakery in Watergraafsmeer. His company was taken over in 1901 by De Distel, and Nienhuis became in charge of the decorative department. His invention of a matte glaze was quickly adopted by other factories. Evert Musch ( Groningen, March 16, 1918 - Anloo, December 5, 2007) was a Dutch painter. Early life Musch studied at Academie Minerva (1936–1940) in his hometown Groningen, where he studied under , Kort and C.P. de Wit. Awoiska van der Molen (born 1972) is a Dutch photographer, living in Amsterdam. She has produced three books of black and white landscape photographs, made in remote places. Van der Molen has been shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize and the Prix Pictet, and her work is held in the collections of the Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Geesje Mesdag-van Calcar
Geesje Mesdag-van Calcar (1850–1936) was a Dutch painter. She is known for her landscape, flower, and genre paintings. Biography Mesdag-van Calcar was born 2 July 1850 in Hoogezand. She attended the Academie Minerva in Groningen She also studied with Paul Gabriël in Paris. She married fellow painter Taco Mesdag (1829–1902) and the couple settled in The Hague. Both were members of the Pulchri Studio and also associated with the Hague School. They also owned property in Vries, Drenthe where they painted in the summer.
