Academia Ecuatoguineana De La Lengua Española
The Equatoguinean Academy of the Spanish Language ( es, Academia Ecuatoguineana de la Lengua Española) is an association of academics and experts on the use of the Spanish language in Equatorial Guinea, a republic in Central Africa in which Spanish is the national official language. Equatoguinean Spanish is the particular variety of Spanish spoken in the country. Since 19 March 2016, Equatorial Guinea has been a member of the Association of Spanish Language Academies. Context Spanish was the administrative language of the territory of Spanish Guinea before its independence from Spain as the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in 1968. The Constitution of Equatorial Guinea codifies the status of Spanish as a national official language. The National University of Equatorial Guinea (UNGE, ''Universidad Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial'' in Spanish) is a public institution of higher education, being one of the main universities of Equatorial Guinea in Central Africa. This is especially true for the Fang, a people whose territories begin at the southern edge of Cameroon south of Kribi, Djoum, and in the South Province and continue south across the border, including all of Río Muni in Equatorial Guinea, and from there south into Gabon and Congo. The capital island of Bioko has largely been influenced by Spanish customs and traditions during the colonial period, when education and health services were developed in the country. Equatorial Guinea was the only Spanish colony in Sub-Saharan Africa. During its colonial history between 1778 and 1968, it developed a tradition of literature in Spanish, unique among the countries in Africa, that persists until the present day. The literature of Equatorial Guinea in Spanish is relatively unknown, unlike African literature in English, French, and Portuguese. Leandro Mbomio Nsue Edú-Aguong (5 January 1938–12 November 2012) was an Equatorial Guinean sculptor and artist, and former minister of Education and minister of information, tourism, art and culture. Mbomio was born on 5 January 1938 in Evinayong, Spanish Guinea. In October 2007 Mbomio was nominated Artist for Peace by the UNESCO, he has several knighthoods including one from the French Republic for merit to art. Leandro studied art in Spain where he lived in exile for many years during the Franco period. He always favoured a Free Equatorial Guinea, and in 1979 he took possession by force of the Former Embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Madrid.
