Acacia Ridge is a southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Acacia Ridge had a population of 7,429 people. Geography Acacia Ridge is south of the central business district. It is within the local government area of City of Brisbane. Primarily residential, Acacia Ridge is also known for its heavy industrial area in the suburb's east, occupying much of the suburb's area east of Beaudesert Road. History The name ''Acacia Ridge'' derives from the number of Acacia species growing in the area. In October 1884, 275 allotments of "Flemington Estate" were advertised for sale by T. Howling & Co. A map advertising the sale states that the estate was close to the Coopers Plains railway station and that coaches passed the estate every day. Patrick Mary O'Donnell (1897–1980) was an Irish-born Roman Catholic priest in Australia. He was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane in Queensland. Early life Patrick O'Donnell was born on 2 February 1897 at Main Street, Fethard, Ireland, the son of Thomas and Johanna O'Donnell, who had a drapery business. Religious service Patrick O'Donnell was ordained as the priest of Sale in Victoria, Australia, on 15 April 1922. On 8 November 1948 O'Donnell was appointed the coadjutor archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane with the right of succession. He served as coadjutor to Archbishop James Duhig for 16 years until Duhig's death on 10 April 1965, whereupon he succeeded him as Archbishop of Brisbane. Later life Patrick O'Donnell retired on 5 March 1973, as the Second Vatican Council had decided that bishops and archbishops should retire at 75 years of age. The Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, often called the Josephites or Brown Joeys, are a Catholic religious order founded by Saint Mary MacKillop (1842–1909). Members of the congregation use the postnominal initials RSJ (Religious Sisters of St Joseph). The order was founded in Penola, South Australia, in 1866 by Mary MacKillop and the Rev. Julian Tenison Woods. James Duhig
Sir James Duhig KCMG (2 September 187110 April 1965) was an Irish-born Australian Roman Catholic religious leader. He was the Archbishop of Brisbane for 48 years from 1917 until his death in 1965. At the time of his death he was the longest-serving bishop in the Catholic Church (1905–1965). Early years Duhig was born in Broadford, County Limerick but emigrated with his family to Australia as a young boy. He completed his education at St. Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, Queensland. After that, he worked for the Cooperative Butchering Company. After undertaking his studies for the priesthood at the Irish College and Pontifical Urbaniana University, both in Rome, Duhig was ordained a priest in 1896 and his profile grew rapidly.
