Abu Muhammad Al-Furqan
Dr Wa'il Adel Hasan Salman al-Fayad, known as Abu Muhammad al-Furqan, was an Iraqi man and senior leader in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, who served as the head of its central media department and was on the group's shura council. History Little is known of his biographical details, but he was one of the few remaining first generation leaders of IS who were also members of the group's earliest incarnations. He is known to have led the media department for most of his time in the group. He was instrumental in setting up the group's now infamous media products such as Dabiq magazine and Amaq News Agency. He got his name "al-Furqan" from his founding of the al-Furqan Media Foundation, the central media which releases the group's most important releases, such as messages from its leaders. Dabiq (magazine)
''Dabiq'' ( ar, دابق, Dābiq) was an online magazine used by the Islamic State (IS) for Islamic radicalisation and recruitment purposes. It was first published in July 2014 in a number of different languages (including English). ''Dabiq'' itself states the magazine is for the purposes of unitarianism, truth-seeking, migration, holy war and community (''tawhid, manhaj, hijrah, jihad'' and '' jama'ah'' respectively). Details ''Dabiq'' was published by IS via the deep web, although it was widely available online through other sources. The first issue carried the date "Ramadan 1435" in the Islamic Hijri calendar. According to the magazine, its name was taken from the town of Dabiq in northern Syria, which is mentioned in a hadith about Armageddon. Amaq News Agency ( ar, وكالة أعماق الإخبارية) is a news outlet linked to the Islamic State (IS). Amaq publishes news reports about claims of responsibility for terrorist attacks in Western countries. It is often the "first point of publication for claims of responsibility" by the Islamic State. In March 2019, Amaq News Agency was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the US Department of State. ISIL is known for its extensive and effective use of propaganda. It uses a version of the Muslim Black Standard flag and developed an emblem which has clear symbolic meaning in the Muslim world. Videos by ISIL are commonly accompanied by nasheeds (chants), notable examples being the chant Dawlat al-Islam Qamat, which came to be viewed as an unofficial anthem of ISIL, and Salil al-sawarim.
