Abu Jarash
Abu Jarash ( ar, أبو جرش) is a neighborhood and district of the al-Salihiyah, Damascus, al-Salihiyah municipality of Damascus, Syria. It had a population of 12,798 in the 2004 census. In the 1936 French Mandate of Syria, French Mandate census, Abu Jarash had a population of 9,600, all Muslims. The neighborhood was built around the domed mausoleum of Abu Jarash, also known as Abdallah ibn Sala al-Raqqi, a high-ranking Ayyubid dynasty, Ayyubid royal court official. Damascus Governorate
Damascus Governorate ( ar, مُحافظة دمشق ') is one of the fourteen governorates (provinces) of Syria. Completely surrounded by the Rif Dimashq Governorate, it consists only of the city of Damascus, the capital of Syria, and the suburb of Yarmouk Camp. The governorate's area is around 107 km2, encompassing the area of the city of Damascus and the Yarmouk Camp, while the population is around 1,711,000. Geography Damascus occupies a strategic location on a plateau which rises 680 m (2,230 ft) above sea level and about 80 km (50 mi) inland from the Mediterranean, sheltered by the Anti-Lebanon mountains, supplied with water by the Barada River. Administratively, Damascus Governorate, one of Syria's 14 governorates, is divided into two cities: the city of Damascus and the city of Yarmouk. The city of Damascus is divided into 16 municipalities ( ar, بلدية, baladiyah). The Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon (french: Mandat pour la Syrie et le Liban; ar, الانتداب الفرنسي على سوريا ولبنان, al-intidāb al-fransi 'ala suriya wa-lubnān) (1923−1946) was a League of Nations mandate founded in the aftermath of the First World War and the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire, concerning Syria (region), Syria and Lebanon. The Ayyubid dynasty ( ar, الأيوبيون '; ) was the founding dynasty of the medieval Sultan of Egypt, Sultanate of Egypt established by Saladin in 1171, following his abolition of the Fatimid Caliphate, Fatimid Caliphate of Egypt.
