Abracadabra (2017 Film)
''Abracadabra'' is a 2017 Spanish-French fantasy black comedy-drama film written and directed by Pablo Berger. It stars Maribel Verdú, Antonio de la Torre & José Mota. It was shortlisted as one of the three films to be selected as the potential Spanish submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards. However, it was not selected, with '' Summer 1993'' being selected as the Spanish entry. Plot Carmen (Verdú) is married to Carlos (De la Torre), a rude, emotionally abusive construction worker who barely pays any attention to his wife and teenage daughter. Pablo Berger
Pablo Berger Uranga (born 1963) is a Spanish film director born in Bilbao, Spain. Life and work Pablo Berger attended primary and secondary school in Artxanda Trueba, located on the outskirts of Bilbao, Spain. In 1988 he directed his first short film, ''Mamá'' (''Mum'') with artistic director Álex de la Iglesia and Ramon Barea. With the financial winnings from a grant from the Provincial Council of Biscay, he went to study for a masters in film at New York University. After getting his Ph.D., he worked as a professor of management at the New York Film Academy. ''Fotogramas'' is Spanish digital and print film magazine which has been in circulation since 1946. It is one of the early film magazines in Spain. History Founded in Barcelona, it was first published on 15 November 1946 by Antonio Nadal-Rodó and María Fernanda Gañán. On 5 February 1951, the magazine awarded their first Placa de San Juan Bosco award to actor Jesús Tordesillas for his performance in 1950 film ''Pequeñeces''. In the 1970s the magazine was part of the Nadal Group. New categories were added over time to the award which were renamed Fotogramas de Plata and in 2012 they absorbed the TP de Oro awards. "Abracadabra" is a song by American rock group Steve Miller Band, written by Steve Miller. The song was released as the first single from the 1982 album of the same name the same year.
