Tavar Zawacki formerly known as 'ABOVE' (born 1981) is an American abstract artist living and working in Lisbon, Portugal. For twenty years (1996–2016) Tavar Zawacki created and signed all of his artworks with his street artist pseudonym, 'ABOVE'.Tavar Zawacki, ''Metamorphosis''. Germany: Urban Spree Books, 2017 page155. Tavar was born and raised in California until the age of 19, at which time, Zawacki bought a one-way flight from California to Paris, France, bringing with him a backpack full of art supplies, all the money in his bank account (US$1,500), and a 'rise above your fears' approach to starting his art career. Starting in Paris in 2000, Tavar transitioned from painting traditional letter style graffiti of A-B-O-V-E, to his 'Above arrow' icon that represented his optimistic mentality to 'rise above fears, challenges, and anything holding you back from your goals.' ''Above'' magazine started as a biannual publication dedicated to sustainability and environmental protection. Its motto is "For The Earth". The first issue came out in the summer of 2009. The magazine was actually a reboot of what was formally a fashion magazine following its purchase by Centoria Limited. It was distributed by Comag, a division of Condé Nast and sold in retailers like Barnes & Noble. Articles in this first issue were written by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and David de Rothschild. There was an interview of the fashion designer Stella McCartney as well as Roberto Saviano, the author of '' Gomorrah''. Those interviews were conducted respectively by Charlotte Casiraghi and Beatrice Borromeo. ''Above'' has been described as "cutting edge", a magazine using luxury, fashion, art ("eco-art"), photography, architecture, and design to raise awareness of the endangered environment. ''Above'' is the only studio album by the American rock band Mad Season, released on March 14, 1995, through Columbia Records. ''Above'' peaked at No. 24 on the ''Billboard 200'' chart. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA in the United States. Layne Staley created the artwork on the album cover and inside the inlay. Background During the production of Pearl Jam's ''Vitalogy'', guitarist Mike McCready went into rehabilitation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he met John Baker Saunders, who would a short while later become bassist in The Walkabouts. In 1994, when the two returned to Seattle, they formed a side band with Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin. Immediately the trio set up rehearsal time together and began writing material. Pillar is an American Christian rock band from Tulsa, consisting of members Rob Beckley, Noah Henson, Michael "Kalel" Wittig, and Lester Estelle II. The band has released nine studio albums, three EPs, and 24 singles since its formation in 1998. History Formation and independent albums (1998–2000) Pillar started in Hays, Kansas in 1998, when Fort Hays State University roommates Brad Noone and Rob Beckley got together with friends Travis Jenkins, Dustin Adams, and Michael Wittig, known as Kalel. In 1999, Pillar released their first album, ''Metamorphosis'', on their own independent label, Shadrach Records. After some more touring in Kansas, they released their second independent album, ''Original Superman'', in 2000. Around this time they relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to try to find a larger fan base. ''Above'' is the eighth studio album from the Swiss heavy metal band Samael, released on 6 March 2009 by Nuclear Blast. Background Earlier in 2009 the band began promoting a virtual death metal band from their Myspace profile. The band was called "Above" and featured computer-designed band members in a virtual world, whose lyrics and songs were written by Samael. Later through Myspace, the band announced that they would be taking their side-project Above and turning it into their newest Samael album. Commenting on the album, Vorph said: "After 20 years, we've tried to do an album that would represent what SAMAEL is all about and we did 'Solar Soul'. We feel now it is the right time to emindthe people where we come from and that's exactly what 'Above' will do.
