Abner Wimberly
Abner Wimberly (May 4, 1926 – September 18, 1976) was an American football player who played three seasons for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He also played one season in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with the Los Angeles Dons. He played college football at Louisiana State University. He was inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1949. Wimberly died on September 18, 1976, in Oak Ridge, Louisiana, from injuries he received in the crash of a private Piper aircraft. Oak Ridge is a village in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 142 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bastrop Micropolitan Statistical Area. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 142 people, 63 households, and 38 families residing in the village. The population density was 143.2 inhabitants per square mile (55.4/km). There were 72 housing units at an average density of 72.6 per square mile (28.1/km). The racial makeup of the village was 91.55% White, 7.75% African American, and 0.70% from two or more races. The team first fielded an organized football team in 1893 and is a member of the Pac-12 Conference. Jonathan Smith has been the head coach since November 29, 2017.
