Assa Abloy AB is a Swedish conglomerate whose offerings include products and services related to locks, doors, gates, and entrance automation. Related products and services include controlling access and confirming identities with keys, cards, tags, mobile, and bio-metric identity verification systems. The company was formed in 1994, when Assa AB was separated from Swedish security firm Securitas AB. Shortly thereafter, Assa AB merged with the Finnish high security lock manufacturer Abloy Oy (based in Joensuu, a subsidiary of the Finnish company Wärtsilä). The company was introduced to the Stockholm Stock Exchange later the same year. Chubb Locks
Chubb Locks is a former brand name (expired 2010) of the Mul-T-Lock subsidiary of the Assa Abloy Group, which manufactures locking systems for residential, secure confinement and commercial applications. History Chubb was started as a ship's ironmonger by Charles Chubb in Winchester, England, and then moved to Portsmouth, England, in 1804. Chubb moved the company into the locksmith business in 1818, in Wolverhampton. The company worked out of a number of premises in Wolverhampton, including the purpose-built factory on Railway Street, now still known as the Chubb Building. Medeco, a subsidiary of the Swedish Assa Abloy Group, is a lock manufacturer located in Roanoke County, Virginia, United States. History Medeco traces its origins to the Mechanical Development Company, a tool and die shop, founded in mid-1950s by Paul A. Powell, Roy C. Spain and Roy N. Oliver in the Cave Spring area of Roanoke County. Roy Oliver served as the CEO of Medeco through the early 1980s. In the 1960s, Mr. Spain perfected a lock featuring angled key cuts with elevating and rotating pin tumblers, and submitted the design to the U.S. Patent Office.
