Abilene Christian Wildcats Men's Basketball
The Abilene Christian Wildcats men's basketball team represents Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Abilene, Texas, United States. The Wildcats joined the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) on July 1, 2021, after having spent the previous eight years in the Southland Conference. Before this move, ACU's most recent conference change was in the 2013 offseason, when the Wildcats made the jump to NCAA Division I and rejoined the Southland Conference after a 40-year absence. They are led by head coach Brette Tanner and play their home games at Moody Coliseum. In 2019, the Wildcats won the Southland Conference and earned their first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats recorded their first tournament win in 2021, upsetting #3 seeded Texas 53–52. Abilene Christian University (ACU) is a Private university, private Churches of Christ, Christian university in Abilene, Texas. It was founded in 1906 as ''Childers Classical Institute''. ACU is one of the largest private universities in the Southwestern United States and has one of the 200 largest university endowments in the United States. Affiliated with Churches of Christ, the university is nationally recognized for excellence in service learning, undergraduate research, and undergraduate teaching. History Abilene Christian University grew from an idea held by A.B. Barret and Charles Roberson to form a school in West Texas. The Churches of Christ in Abilene agreed to back the project. J.W. Childers sold Barret land and a large house west of the town, and lowered the price with the stipulation that the school would be named in his honor. 2022 College Basketball Invitational
The 2022 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination, fully-bracketed men’s college basketball postseason tournament featuring 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams not selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The tournament began on March 19 and concluded on March 23. Semifinal and championship games aired on ESPN2. The tournament was won by UNC Wilmington. In 2021, CBI was held for the first time in Daytona Beach, Florida, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the tournament had been held on campus sites. In response to feedback received for the 2021 playing, CBI returned to the Ocean Center in 2022, which was the 14th edition of the tournament. College Basketball Invitational
The College Basketball Invitational (CBI) is a men's college basketball tournament created in 2007 by The Gazelle Group. The inaugural tournament occurred after the conclusion of the 2007–08 men's college basketball regular season. The CBI selects 16 teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), and who are willing to pay a $50,000 entry fee to participate. In the CBI, prior to 2020 teams competed on home courts. After the post-COVID pandemic revival, the tournament has been staged at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The CBI is a single-elimination tournament. Prior to 2020, the tournament was single elimination until the final two teams were determined, after which the championship was determined by a championship series with a best-two-out-of-three format. 1999 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1999 NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament was the 43rd annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division II college basketball in the United States. Officially culminating the 1998–99 NCAA Division II men's basketball season, the tournament featured forty-eight teams from around the country. The Elite Eight, national semifinals, and championship were again played at the Commonwealth Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Kentucky Wesleyan (35–2) defeated Metro State in the final, 75–60, to win their record seventh Division II national championship. This title came one year after the Panthers' loss to UC Davis in the 1998 championship. Kentucky Wesleyan was coached by Ray Harper.
