Abigail Wehrung
Abigail Wehrung (born 28 December 1995) is an Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Wehrung began her professional career in 2014, for the Canberra Capitals. Wehrung was re-signed for the 2016–17 season, her third consecutive season with the Capitals. After strong showings throughout her 2016–17 season, Wehrung was re-signed for the 2017–18 season. Abbey is playing for Bendigo Spirit in the WNBL summer 2019 season. In October 2020, Wehrung signed with the Adelaide Lightning for the 2020 season. National Team Youth Level Wehrung made her international debut at the 2011 FIBA U16 Oceania Championship where she helped Australia take gold and qualify for the World Championship the following year. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). 2020 WNBL Season
The 2020 WNBL season was the 41st season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Canberra Capitals were the two-time defending champions, but were defeated in the Semi-Finals by Melbourne. The Southside Flyers won the Grand Final, defeating the Townsville Fire, 99–82. The Flyers took home the franchise's fourth WNBL title overall, this being their first since rebranding as ''Southside''. Chemist Warehouse was again the WNBL's naming rights partner for this season, after signing a three-year deal in July 2018. Spalding again provided equipment including the official game ball, alongside iAthletic supplying team apparel for the fourth consecutive season.
