Abergavenny Hundred
Abergavenny was an ancient hundred of Monmouthshire. It was situated in the northern part of the county, bounded on the north by Herefordshire; on the east by the hundreds of Skenfrith, Raglan, and Usk; on the south by Wentloog hundred; and on the west by Wentloog and Brecknockshire. Hundred (country Subdivision)
A hundred is an administrative division that is geographically part of a larger region. It was formerly used in England, Wales, some parts of the United States, Denmark, Southern Schleswig, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Bishopric of Ösel–Wiek, Curonia, the Ukrainian state of the Cossack Hetmanate and in Cumberland County in the British Colony of New South Wales. Llanddewi Rhydderch
Llanddewi Rhydderch is a village in Monmouthshire, Wales at OS . It is off the B4233 road, roughly southeast of Abergavenny, lying within the administrative community of Gobion Fawr. History The township of Llanddewi Rhydderch grew around the small ''llan'', or monastic cell named after St. David. St David's Church holds regular services every week. The present incumbent, Fr John Humphries, has served in the parish since 2012. In 2015 the church was successful in obtaining a National Lottery Grant to clear land at the back of the church to turn into a WW1 Memorial Meadow. The churchyard has a very old yew tree, which may be many centuries old and became a finalist in Woodland Trust Welsh tree of the year competition. The village has been home to the honorary consulate of Kiribati since 1996. It is the only official representation of the country in Europe. Llanwenarth
Llanwenarth is a small village and parish in the Usk Valley of Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, United Kingdom. It is in the community of Llanfoist Fawr and covered by the electoral ward of Llanwenarth Ultra. Location Llanwenarth is located west of the market town of Abergavenny, close to the banks of the River Usk. History and amenities St Peter's Church is the parish church: an ogival-headed priest's doorway in the chancel, and two windows with reticulated tracery are assigned to the fourteenth century, and a lancet in the west wall of the nave seems to be from the thirteenth, where a square tower with battlemented top was added later. Llanover Fawr
Llanover (; cy, Llanofer) is a village in the community of Goetre Fawr in Monmouthshire, Wales. Location Llanover is located four miles south of Abergavenny just off the A4042 road to Pontypool. The community includes the separate hamlets of Llanfair Kilgeddin, Llanfihangel Gobion, Llanddewi Rhydderch and The Bryn (a.k.a. Llangattock Nigh Usk). Governance An electoral ward exists in the same name. This ward includes the parish of Llanarth and elects a county councillor to Monmouthshire County Council. The total ward population at the 2011 census was 2,284. Llanhilleth
Llanhilleth () is a village, community and an electoral ward on the A467 road between Ebbw Vale and Crumlin in Blaenau Gwent, Wales. Two large mounds in the field behind the Carpenter's Arms are the remains of the medieval Llanhilleth castle which originally had two large, stone-built towers. Part of the Monmouthshire Canal ran through the parish; the Ebbw River forms the western boundary of the parish. The twin-belled Church in Wales church of St Mark is located on Brooklyn Terrace, near the High Street junction. It is in the benefice of Abertillery with Cwmtillery with Llanhilleth with Six Bells, in the deanery of Pontypool, and was built in 1898. Nearby are the villages of Aberbeeg and St Illtyd, within the community, the latter of which contains the former parish church. In the far south of the community is the village of Swffryd. Cadoxton (or in full Cadoxton-juxta-Neath) ( cy, Llangatwg), is a village situated in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Cadoxton is located just outside the town of Neath and borders the villages of Cilfrew and Bryncoch. The village has 1,684 residents and is located in the Cadoxton ward. Cadoxton elected a Liberal Democrat representative in the 2008 council elections. History The village name Cadoxton is the English language version of the Welsh name Llangatwg (equivalent to St Catwg's) and is a contraction of (Cadoc's-town). Llanvihangel Crucorney ( cy, Llanfihangel Crucornau) is a small village in the Community (Wales), community (parish) of Crucorney, Monmouthshire, Wales. It is located north of Abergavenny and south-west of Hereford, England on the A465 road.
