Aber Valley Football Club is a Welsh football team based in Abertridwr, Caerphilly, Wales. They play in the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division, which is in the fourth tier of the Welsh football league system. They were champions of Division One for the 2019–20 season. History A club called ''Aber Valley'' played in the Welsh Football League Division Two East for the 1963–64 season, finishing tenth, and gained promotion to Division One (tier 2) at the end of the 1966–67 season after finishing third in Division Two. After one season in Division One, where they finished bottom of the league, the club left the Welsh Football League. They were South Wales Amateur League Division Two champions in the 1970–71 season. The current club were formed in 2000 as ''Aber Valley YMCA'' and played in the South Wales Amateur League Division Two. Abertridwr (; Welsh: ''the mouth of the three waters'') is a village in Caerphilly County Borough, Wales, situated about north-west of Caerphilly town. The "three waters" or "three streams" are Nant Cwm-parc, Nant Cwmceffyl and Nant Ilan, which join to form Nant yr Aber. Like many villages and towns in the area, Abertridwr was a coal mining community within the South Wales Coalfield. Windsor Colliery In 1895 the Windsor Colliery Company started to sink two shafts to a depth of around 2018 feet (615 m). The first coal was raised in 1902, The workings were connected underground to the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd for ventilation purposes. Caerphilly (, ; cy, Caerffili, ) is a town and community in Wales. It is situated at the southern end of the Rhymney Valley. It is north of Cardiff and northwest of Newport. It is the largest town in Caerphilly County Borough, and lies within the historic borders of Glamorgan, on the border with Monmouthshire. The South Wales Alliance League is a football league structure in South Wales, currently known for sponsorship reasons as ''The Highadmit Projects South Wales Alliance League''. The top tier of the league, the Premier Division is at the fourth tier of the Welsh Football Pyramid and offers promotion opportunities to the tier 3 Football Association of Wales administered Ardal Leagues. The Welsh football league system (or pyramid) is a series of football leagues with regular promotion and relegation between them. The Welsh Football League Division Two, (last known as the ''Nathanielcars.co.uk Welsh League Division Two'', for sponsorship reasons) was a football league and forms the fourth level of the Welsh football league system in South Wales. If the team which finishes top of the division has good enough ground facilities, traditionally it was promoted to the Welsh Football League Division One and is replaced by the team finishing bottom of Division One.
