Abelardo Ávila
Abelardo Ávila Villareal (1907-1967) was a Mexican engraver noted for his Costumbrista work, mostly with the Sociedad Mexicana de Grabadores; however, he did paint one mural along with Pedro Rendón at the Abelardo L. Rodríguez market in Mexico City. Ávila was born in 1907 in Jalpan de Serra, Querétaro. From 1921 to 1926 he studied painting at the Academia de Bellas Artes in the city of Querétaro. After receiving a scholarship, he continued studying at the Academia Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Mexico City. In 1929, with an interest in woodcut, he entered a third school called the Taller de Grabado, de Madera y Metal. In 1934, he joined the fine arts workshop of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios. Jalpan De Serra
Jalpan de Serra () is a town in Jalpan de Serra Municipality located in the north of the state of Querétaro, Mexico. It is located in the heart of an important ecological zone called the Sierra Gorda. It is also the site two of five Franciscan missions, including the first one, to have been built in the mid-18th century, and declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. The municipality is also home to a small but important indigenous group called the Pame. However, the municipality has been losing population since the mid-20th century even though recent events such as the town being named a Pueblo Mágico have worked to create a tourism industry. Liga De Escritores Y Artistas Revolucionarios
The Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (LEAR; League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists) was a Mexican association of revolutionary artists and writers. It was established in the house of its first president Leopoldo Méndez in 1933 from the disbanded "Sindicato de Trabajadores Técnicos, Pintores y Escultores" (''syndicate of technical workers, painters and sculptors''), and it was defined as the Mexican section of the International Union of Revolutionary Writers, which was founded by the Comintern in the Soviet Union in 1930. The first secretary of the organization was Luis Arenal. Salón de la Plástica Mexicana (Hall of Mexican Fine Art; ''SPM'') is an institution dedicated to the promotion of Mexican contemporary art. La Esmeralda or Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado (ENPEG) (English: National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking) is a Mexican art school founded in 1927 and located in Mexico City. History The history of the ENPEG started with the foundation of a sculpture and wood carving school in the former La Merced Cloister (Exconvento de la Merced) in the historic center of Mexico City by Guillermo Ruiz in 1927. In the 1930s, the school moved to the alley Callejón de la Esmeralda (now Calle San Fernando), Colonia Guerrero, which gave it the name "La Esmeralda". In 1943, Antonio M.
