Abel Sarmientos
Abel B. Sarmientos (born ) is a Cuban former volleyball player. He was part of the Cuban men's national volleyball team at the 1992 Summer Olympics The 1992 Summer Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de Verano de 1992, ca, Jocs Olímpics d'estiu de 1992), officially known as the Games of the XXV Olympiad ( es, Juegos de la XXV Olimpiada, ca, Jocs de la XXV Olimpíada) and commonly known as ... in Barcelona, Spain. He helped the Cuban team win the silver medal at the 1990 FIVB World Championship in Brazil. Personal life Sarmientos' older brother, Victoriano, also played on the Cuban national team. The 1987 Pan American Games, officially known as the X Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event held in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, on August 7–23, 1987. Over 4,300 athletes from 38 countries in the Americas competed in 30 sports, earning 1,015 medals. Events were held at 23 venues in and around Indianapolis. The official mascot for the games was Amigo, a green parrot. Host city selection Santiago, Chile, was originally named the host of the tenth Pan American Games, but it withdrew in 1983 due to political and financial problems. Quito, Ecuador, was named to replace Santiago, but it also withdrew, in late 1984. Desperate, the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) held a new election. Victoriano Sarmientos Bios (born December 18, 1956) is a Cuban former volleyball player who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics. In 1976, Sarmientos was part of the Cuban team that won the bronze medal in the Olympic tournament. He played all six matches. The Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC or CACGs) are a multi-sport regional championship event, held quadrennial (once every four years), typically in the middle (even) year between Summer Olympics. The games are for countries in Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the South American Caribbean countries of Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. The games are overseen by Centro Caribe Sports (''formerly CACSO'').
