Abe Alvarez
Abraham Alvarez (born October 17, 1982) is an American baseball coach and former professional baseball pitcher, who is the pitching coach for the BYU Cougars. Alvarez played college baseball at Long Beach State University from 2001 to 2003 for head coaches Dave Snow and Mike Weathers and professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox. Alvarez has been legally blind in his left eye since infancy. College career Alvarez, who is of Mexican American descent, attended Long Beach State University, where he posted a 23–5 record with a 2.56 earned run average in three seasons. Pawtucket Red Sox
The Pawtucket Red Sox, known colloquially as the PawSox, were a professional minor league baseball club based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. From 1973 to 2020, the team was a member of the International League and served as the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The PawSox played their home games at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium as the only professional baseball team in Rhode Island, and won four league championships, their last in 2014. Strikeout-to-walk Ratio
In baseball statistics, strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) is a measure of a pitcher's ability to control pitches, calculated as strikeouts divided by bases on balls. A hit by pitch is not counted statistically as a walk, and therefore not counted in the strikeout-to-walk ratio. The inverse of this calculation is the related statistic for hitters, walk-to-strikeout ratio (BB/K). Portland Sea Dogs
The Portland Sea Dogs are a Minor League Baseball team based in Portland, Maine, playing in the Eastern League (1938–present), Eastern League. Established in 1994, the Sea Dogs are the Double-A (baseball), Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Sea Dogs became part of the Red Sox system for the 2003 season; previously they were affiliated with the Florida Marlins. The change in affiliation brought success in the 2005 and 2006 seasons as the Sea Dogs went to the Eastern League championship series both years. A base on balls (BB), also known as a walk, occurs in baseball when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls '' balls'', and is in turn awarded first base without the possibility of being called out. The base on balls is defined in Section 2.00 of baseball's Official Rules, and further detail is given in 6.08(a). It is considered a faux pas for a professional player to literally walk to first base; the batter-runner and any advancing runners normally jog on such a play. The Lowell Spinners were a baseball team based in Lowell, Massachusetts. From 1996 to 2020, they were members of Minor League Baseball's New York–Penn League (NYPL) as the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Long Beach State Dirtbags baseball team is the college baseball program that represents California State University, Long Beach.
