Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah ( ar, عبد الرحمن بن حمد العطية; born 15 April 1950) is a Qatari diplomat who served as the fourth secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Early life and education Attiyah was born in 1950. He received a bachelor's degree in political science and geography from the University of Miami. Career Attiyah started his career in 1972, joining the minister of foreign affairs. From 1974 to 1981, he served as the Qatar's consul general in Geneva as well as ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations . He also served as Qatar's permanent representativeto the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome. From 1981 to 1984 he was Qatari ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Jamil Ibrahim Hejailan, also known as Jamil Ibrahim Al Hejailan, ( ar, جميل بن إبراهيم الحجيلان; born 1927) is a Saudi Arabian people, Saudi diplomat, who served as secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) from 1996 to 2002. He was the ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Germany, Kuwait, and France. Hejailan was the first minister of information and broadcasting of Saudi Arabia and also served as the minister of health. Biography Hejailan was born in Buraidah, Al-Qassim Province, Al Qasim region, in 1927. He received a degree in law in Cairo. He was a career diplomat and started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Saudi Arabia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1953 he served as the third secretary at the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran, Iran. He was the chargé d'affaires at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Pakistan.
