ʿAbd ( ar, عبد) is an Arabic word meaning one who is subordinated as a slave or a servant, and it means also to worship. The word can also be transliterated into English as 'Abd, where the apostrophe indicates the ayin, denoting a voiced pharyngeal fricative consonant or some reflex of it. Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali
Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali (1878–1926) was an Indian Muslim scholar and writer from the Firangi Mahal palace in Lucknow. History His family moved from Sihali, Barabanki to the Firangi Mahal around 1692. In 1915, he was residing in Lucknow. Politics During the First World War he asked the Sultan of Turkey to support Britain or remain out of the war. On 26 January 1919 he presided over a protest meeting in Lucknow against the British attitude against Muslims. He was highly active in the Khilafat movement. He preached Hindu- Muslim unity, especially during the Khilafat agitation, and was an associate of Mahatma Gandhi. On other occasions, he urged Muslims not to sacrifice cows in respect of the Hindus. Abdul Bari Nadvi
Abdul Bari Nadvi was born in 1886 in the Barabanki district near Lucknow in the UP Province of India. His father Hakim Abdul Khaliq was a student of Maulana Mohammad Naeem Farangi Mahli. His younger brother Saad-ud-Din Ansari was among the founding members of the Jamia Millia Delhi and taught there for a long time. Abdul Bari Nadvi died in Lucknow on 30 January 1976. He was survived by four sons and two daughters, all of whom are now deceased. Education and Career After his early education at a local madrasah he went to Nadwa-tul-Ulama for his higher education. He was well reputed as an established academic and writer in the disciplines of philosophy and theology and taught at Gujarat College in Ahmedabad, Dakkan College in Pune, and Osmania University in Hyderabad from where he retired as Professor, having earlier served as Head of the Philosophy Department. Abdul Bari (professor)
Abdul Bari (1892–1947), also known as Acha Bacha, was a descendant of Syed Ibrahim Malik Baya, an Indian academic and social reformer. He sought to bring about social reform in Indian society by awakening people through education. He had a vision of India free from slavery, social inequality, and communal disharmony. He took part in the freedom movement, for which he was killed. Biography In 1937 was his first historical agreement with TISCO (now Tata Steel) Management. Bari served as the president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee from 1946 until his death on 28 March 1947. He was killed by three men who shot at him after an altercation by a Bari Path in Khusrupur, Bihar Province, during a stopover on his return from Dhanbad to Patna. Muhammad Abdul Bari (1930 – 4 June 2003) was a Bangladeshi academic, linguist and Islamic scholar. Background and education Bari was born in 1930, to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Syedpur in Shibganj, Bogra District, Bengal Province. His grandfather, Sayed Abdul Hadi, had founded the village of Nurul Huda in Dinajpur and was one of the pioneers of the Ahl-i Hadith movement in Bengal. His father, Muhammad Abdullahil Baqi, was the vice-president of Muslim League, a member of Bengal Legislative Assembly, Pakistan General Assembly and East-Pakistan Legislative Council. Bari passed the Islamic intermediate examination from Dhaka Intermediate Government College (now Kazi Nazrul Islam College) in 1946. Abdul Bari (squash Player)
Abdul Bari was a squash player. He was one of the leading players in India in the 1940s. Bari was a distant cousin of brothers Hashim Khan and Azam Khan, who went on to dominate the international squash scene in the 1950s and early 1960s representing Pakistan while Bari preferred to stay in Bombay, India after the independence of India and Pakistan. He was sponsored to travel to the United Kingdom to compete in the British Open (the effective world championship of the sport at the time), where he finished runner-up in 1950 to the Egyptian player Mahmoud Karim. Two years later in 1952 he became the first Asian to become a professional coach in England when he was appointed by Junior Carlton Club in London. Bari died of a brain haemorrhage in 1954.
