The Abbotsford Heat were a professional ice hockey team that played five seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) between 2009 and 2014. The team was based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada, and played its home games at the 7,046-seat Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. The franchise was the National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate of the Calgary Flames and arrived in Abbotsford in 2009 as a relocated franchise formerly known as the Quad City Flames. The team played five seasons in British Columbia before the Flames' lease agreement with the City of Abbotsford was terminated following the 2013–14 season. The Stockton Heat were a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) that played from 2015 to 2022. The team was based in Stockton, California, and was affiliated with the National Hockey League (NHL) Calgary Flames. The Heat played its home games at Stockton Arena. It was a relocation of the Adirondack Flames, joining four other relocated AHL franchises in California that formed the basis for a Pacific Division following the 2014–15 season. The Heat replaced the ECHL's Stockton Thunder, which played from 2005 until 2015, after which they moved to Glens Falls, New York, where the franchise became the Adirondack Thunder. Jim Playfair
James Playfair (born May 22, 1964) is a Canadian former ice hockey coach and player. He is a former NHL ice hockey player and a former head coach of the Calgary Flames. He served as an associate coach for the Arizona Coyotes from 2011 to 2017, and for the Edmonton Oilers from 2019 to 2022. Playing career Before making the NHL, Playfair played for the Fort Saskatchewan Traders located just north of Edmonton. The Oklahoma City Barons were a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The team's first season was 2010–11. They played their home games at the Cox Convention Center, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. History On February 9, 2010, the American Hockey League Board of Governors approved of the relocation of the Oilers' inactive AHL franchise to Oklahoma City, after a five-year dormancy. The franchise had gone through six incarnations, the first of which was the Nova Scotia Oilers and most recently the Edmonton Road Runners, who ceased play in 2005. The ''Abbotsford News'' is a Canadian community newspaper in Abbotsford, British Columbia published by Black Press. ''The News'' publishes more than 40,000 copies two times a week distributed across Abbotsford and also the adjacent municipality of Mission. ''The News'' claims to be one of the first community newspapers in the province due to its roots from the ''Abbotsford Post'' established in 1906 by Mission publisher John A. Bates. The Adirondack Phantoms were a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL), who began play in the 2009–10 AHL season.
