The institution incorporated Somali tradition and Islam and was established as a result of women being excluded from the numerous male dominated religious orders in Somalia. Ibrahim (Abai) Qunanbaiuly ( kk, Абай Құнанбайұлы, ; russian: Абай Кунанбаев; ) was a Kazakh poet, composer and Hanafi Maturidi theologian philosopher. He was also a cultural reformer toward European and Russian cultures on the basis of enlightened Islam. Among Kazakhs he is known simply as Abai. Life Early life and education Abai was born in Karauyl village in Chingiz volost of Semipalatinsk uyezd of the Russian Empire (this is now in Abay District of East Kazakhstan). He was the son of Qunanbai and Uljan, his father's second wife. They named him Ibrahim, as the family was Muslim, and he stuck with the name for the first few years of his life. Ibrahim first studied at a local madrasah under Mullah Ahmed Ryza. During his early childhood years in Ryza's tutelage, he received the nickname “Abai” (which means “careful”), a nickname that stayed with him for the rest of his life. Mukhtar Omarkhanuli Auezov ( kz, Mūhtar Omarhanūly Äuezov, Мұхтар Омарханұлы Әуезов, مۇحتار ومارحانۇلى اۋەزوۆ, ; russian: Мухта́р Омарха́нович Ауэ́зов, ''Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov'') (September 28, 1897 — June 27, 1961) was a Kazakh writer, a social activist, a Doctor of Philology, and an honored academic of the Soviet Union (1946). He was born on September 28, 1897 and raised in Semey (Kaskabulak). Auezov's writings were influenced by the poet Abai. Mukhtar's father and grandfather Omarkhan Auez both highly revered the poet, who was a neighbour and a friend of the Auezov family. His grandfather was a storyteller of folk tales, and taught his grandson to read and write. Lesser Abay River
Gilgel Abay (ግልገል አባይ, Gǝlgäl Abbay), or Lesser Abay, is a river of central Ethiopia. Rising in the mountains of Gojjam, it flows northward to empty into south-western Lake Tana at . Tributaries of the Gilgel Abbay include the Ashar, Jamma, Kelti and the Koger. It was regarded as the true source of the Nile for a long time and the Jesuit priest Pedro Paez visited it in 1618. The name Gilgel Abbay means Lesser Nile, as Abbay is the name for the Blue Nile. Characteristics It is a meandering river, with a catchment area of 3887 km³. Near its mouth it is 71 meter wide, with a slope gradient of 0.7 metre per kilometre. The average diameter of the bed material is 0.37 mm (sand). Abay Opera House ( kk, Абай атындағы қазақ мемлекеттік академиялық опера және балет театры, translit=Abaı atyndaǵy qazaq memlekettik akademııalyq opera jáne balet teatry) is one of the leading opera houses in Kazakhstan located in Almaty city. History Before becoming a theatre, Abay Opera House was found as a music studio in 1933 in Almaty. Since 1934 it became a theatre. In 1941 was the official opening of the new theater building and in 1945 was named after Kazakh poet, composer, and philosopher Abay Qunanbayuli. On January 13, 1934, the first public performance of the musical comedy "Aiman Sholpan" on a libretto by Mukhtar Auezov took place under the auspices of the music studio.
