Abades, Tenerife
Abades “on Tenerife” is a small holiday resort located on the south-east coast from Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, on the municipality of Arico, between Poris de Abona and La Jaca. History The leprosy station Leprosy once was considered a major disease on the island. A leprosy station was first built in the north of the island, where most of the local population lived. The bodies were thrown in the sea outside Santa Cruz until a crematorium was built. In 1943 a whole leprosy village was built on the hill above Abades, including an hospital, a crematorium, many bungalows, an administration’s building facing the sea, and the big concrete church, in typical Franco’s style with a huge cross on the top, that everyone can spot from the motorway. Autopista TF-1
The TF-1 (or ''Autopista del Sur'', "Southern Motorway") is a motorway encircling the eastern and the southern parts of the island of Tenerife ( Canary Islands). The TF-1 motorway runs from the capital Santa Cruz in the north to Adeje with its major tourist resorts Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas in the south of the island, and continues to Santiago del Teide in the west. It is a 103 km motorway and interchange numbers go facing south. The motorway is one in the Canary Islands that passes through most of the municipalities and is the longest in the archipelago as well. Playa De Las Américas
Playa de las Américas is a purpose-built holiday resort in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands of Spain. It is located in the southern and southern-west part of the Municipality of Arona, close to the adjoining Municipality of Adeje in the west of Tenerife. It was built in the 1960s a few miles distant from the fishing village of Los Cristianos. Playa de las Americas now (2021) is part of the contiguous touristic construction zone lining Tenerife's entire southwestern coast. Los Cristianos
Los Cristianos is a town in Spain with a population of 21,235 (2017), situated on the south coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife. Located in the municipality of Arona, Tenerife, Arona between the cone of the mountain Chayofita and the greater mountain Guaza. The town centre is around the Los Cristianos bay, but is rapidly expanding inland with modern development. The town is a popular tourist resort and includes a ferry port and two beaches. Unlike its bustling neighbour, Playa de las Américas, this town has a history that predates the tourist boom of the 1970s and 1980s. TITSA
TITSA is the ''Transportes interurbanos de Tenerife, S.A.'' which operates the only public bus service in Tenerife, on the Canary Islands. It carries over 60 million travellers a year in a fleet of approximately 600 vehicles. History In 1884, the Omnibus Company started a bus line between Santa Cruz and La Laguna operating a single one-horse open carriage. By 1885 they had the four and six horse stagecoaches, with an additional line from Santa Cruz to La Orotava. In 1898, development of the electric tram system began, with the inaugural trip in 1901. Soon the tram replaced horses on the existing lines, and a new line was built from Santa Cruz to Icod de los Vinos. In 1904 track was laid from La Laguna to Tacoronte. By 1950, the company had 21 km of track, with four stationhouses: Santa Cruz, La Cuesta, La Laguna and Tacoronte. By 1959 it was all abandoned; bus service had replaced the trams. Tenerife South Airport ( es, Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur) , also known as Tenerife South–Reina Sofía Airport, is the larger of the two international airports located on the island of Tenerife (the other being Tenerife North Airport) and the second busiest in the Canary Islands (after Gran Canaria Airport).
