Aaron (Jaredite)
According to the Book of Mormon, the Jaredites () are a people who lived in ancient America shortly after the confounding of the languages at the Tower of Babel and are written of principally in the Book of Ether (). The Lineage of the Ether is written in The Book of Ether, chapter 1 verses 6-33. Most individuals are only briefly mentioned in the narrative of the Book of Ether. Each is notable in that he is a descendant of Jared (), an ancestor to Ether, and most were also Kings of the Jaredites. Book Of Mormon
The Book of Mormon is a religious text of the Latter Day Saint movement, which, according to Latter Day Saint theology, contains writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent from 600 BC to AD 421 and during an interlude dated by the text to the unspecified time of the Tower of Babel. A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. Jaredite
The Jaredites () are one of four peoples (along with the Nephites, Lamanites, and Mulekites) that the Latter-day Saints believe settled in ancient America. The Book of Mormon (mainly its Book of Ether) describes the Jaredites as the descendants of Jared and his brother, who lived at the time of the Tower of Babel. According to the Book of Mormon, they fled across the ocean on unique barges and established an ancient civilization in America. The Book of Ether's mention of a "narrow neck of land" has led some to conclude that the civilization likely spanned from the Midwest to the Eastern United States such as New York, where fossils of ancient mammoths have now been discovered in abundance, and many Native American accounts describe Niagara as the narrow strip of land that literally translates to "the neck". Ether (Book Of Mormon Prophet)
According to the Book of Mormon, Ether () is a Jaredite prophet, one of the last surviving Jaredites, and primary author of the Book of Ether. Lineage Life Ether's grandfather Moron had been king of the Jaredites. Moron was overthrown and "dwelt in captivity all the remainder of his days". Ether's father, Coriantor, was born while his father was captive and Coriantor "dwelt in captivity all his days". Ether "was a prophet of the Lord" and "lived in the days of Coriantumr; and Coriantumr was king over all the land". The people rejected his teachings concerning a "New Jerusalem", causing him to hide in a cave, where he witnessed the destruction of the Jaredites. Ether was compelled to preach to Coriantumr, who also rejected his word. Moron (Book Of Mormon)
Moron () is the name of a location and a king in the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon. They are both connected with the Jaredite people. Jaredite king According to the Book of Mormon, Moron was a Jaredite king who lived during the 1st millennium B.C. in the Americas. Genealogy He was the son of Ethem, the grandson of Ahah, as well as being the father of Coriantor, and grandfather of Ether, after whom the Book of Ether is named. He was a descendant of Jared. Character and reign Moron is described as doing "that which was wicked before the Lord." He is the subject of several verses in Chapter 11 of the Book of Ether. Akish
According to the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon, Akish () was a prominent figure among the Jaredites. In the book's narrative, Akish first established secret combinations, nearly destroying their civilization. Omer was the legitimate king at the time, however, Omer's son Jared desired to take the throne earlier, and employed a scheme devised by his daughter (Omer's granddaughter) to do so. Jared's daughter danced for Akish who then desired to marry her. Jared agreed, on the condition that Akish "''will bring unto me the head of... the king.''" Akish gathered Jared's kinsmen, had them swear an oath to follow him and agree that anyone revealing the plan would be killed. (Ether 8:7, 14) Akish and those loyal to him took the kingdom from Omer. Coriantumr
In the Book of Mormon, Coriantumr () is the name of three figures that appear throughout the book's narrative. Chronologically, they are one of the sons of Omer, a deposed Jaredite king who was later restored to his throne by his sons Esrom and Coriantumr; the last of the Jaredite kings, who lived to see his people destroyed and to see another people, the Mulekites, live in the land; and a Nephite dissenter, who was made leader by the Lamanites over the Lamanite armies.
