Aagt Germonts

She had three children born dead, and when the fetuses where buried without anyone having seen them, she was suspected for witchcraft or for having murdered them. She was prosecuted for witchcraft. When the graves of her dead children were exhumed by the court, the bodies of her children were found out to be dolls. She was sentenced to death of sorcery, but the death sentenced were commuted to pillorying holding the three dolls. Abbekerk
Abbekerk is a small city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Medemblik, and lies about 9 km north of Hoorn. History Abbekerk was first mentioned around 1312 as Abbenkerke, and means "(private) church of Abbe (person)". Abbekerk developed as a peat excavation settlement in the 11th century. It received city rights in 1414. The city rights ended in 1795. The Dutch Reformed church of Abbekerk is a single aisled church. The nave was built around 1500 and enlarged in 1517. It has a tower dating from 1656. The brick spire was restored in 1859. Abbekerk was home to 422 people in 1840. In 1887, a combined railway station with Lambertschaag opened on the Hoorn to Medemblik railway line. The railway line closed in 1941. It used to be a separate municipality. Anna Muggen
Anna Jansdochter Muggen (d. 1608), was an alleged Dutch witch. She was the last person to be executed for witchcraft in Holland, then the most influential province of the Netherlands. She has been referred to as the last person to be executed for witchcraft in the Netherlands. Witch Trials In The Netherlands
The witch trials in the Netherlands were among the smallest in Europe. The Netherlands are known for having discontinued their witchcraft executions earlier than any other European country. The provinces began to phase out capital punishment for witchcraft beginning in 1593. The last trial in the Northern Netherlands took place in 1610. 164 to about 200 people were killed in Dutch witch trials, rising to potentially 300 victims including casualties from regions that were under Spanish jurisdiction but eventually became part of the Netherlands. The victims were overwhelmingly women. Belief in witches persisted in some areas into the nineteenth century and in 1823 one woman underwent the water ordeal on her own request with the support of the authorities to prove her innocence to her superstitious neighbours.
