Aage Samuelsen
Aage Samuelsen, also known as "" 'brother Aage', (23 January 1915 – 29 November 1987) was a Norwegian evangelist, singer and composer. Biography He was the son of factory worker and navvy Karl Hjalmar Samuelsen and Anna Samuelsen née Hansen, a cleaner. He was the third of eight siblings, and grew up in a poor environment in the Bakken neighborhood of Skien. As a child he was often ill and did not learn to walk until he was five or six years old. His mother was musical and bought him a guitar when he was 15. Samuelsen learned to play both harmonica and guitar and sang and composed songs all his life. At the age of 18, he helped start a dance band/jazz band that traveled and performed, including with Excelsior Band. Samuelsen had problems with alcohol abuse at times. Maran Ata
Maran Ata is a Norwegian free church Christian denomination or faith community () founded by Charismatic minister Aage Samuelsen in 1958–1959. The denomination consists of several congregations. Maran Ata is known for its music and a direct and challenging proclamation of salvation. The word '' Maran ata'' is Aramaic and means 'our Lord is coming', and is taken from the Apostle Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians in the New Testament in the Christian Bible, chapter 16, verse 22. History After preacher Aage Samuelsen was forced out of the Norwegian Pentecostal movement in July 1957, he decided to found his own church, Maran Ata. Charismatic Movement
The charismatic movement in Christianity is a movement within established or mainstream Christian denominations to adopt beliefs and practices of Charismatic Christianity with an emphasis on baptism with the Holy Spirit, and the use of spiritual gifts ('' charismata''). It has affected most denominations in the US, and has spread widely across the world. The movement is deemed to have begun in 1960 in Anglicanism, and spread to other mainstream protestant denominations, including Lutherans and Presbyterians by 1962 and to Roman Catholicism by 1967. Methodists became involved in the charismatic movement in the 1970s. Kåre Kristiansen
Kåre Gudbrand Kristiansen (11 March 1920 – 3 December 2005) was a Norwegian politician active in the Christian People's Party. Noted as a conservative within his own party, he was known to take controversial positions at odds with the prevailing consensus. Kristiansen was born in Bergen, the son of a lay preacher. Both his parents were active in The Salvation Army. He started his professional life as a telegraph operator in the Norwegian railroad system, where he rose through the ranks. A devout Christian all his life, he became politically active in his home community of Nesodden in 1951. He was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1965 and served in this capacity until 1968. He was elected to Storting, first as a deputy member in 1969 and as a full member from 1973 to 1977 and 1981 to 1989. Telemark
Telemark is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Telemark borders the traditional regions and former counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Hordaland, Rogaland and Aust-Agder. The name ''Telemark'' means the "mark of the Thelir", the ancient North Germanic tribe that inhabited what is now known as Upper Telemark in the Migration Period and the Viking Age. Dalen Hotel
Dalen Hotel is a historic hotel located at Dalen in the municipality of Tokke in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The luxury Dalen Hotel, once a popular locale for European royalty, is one of the largest wooden buildings in Norway and one of the best preserved hotels of its size from the 1800s. The hotel is located in eastern Dalen on the shores of Bandak lake. Donald Bergagård
Donald Bergagård (born 13 February 1936 in Öckerö) is a Swedish singer, accordionist and evangelist. In the late 1950s Bergagård was employed as a pastor in the Pentecostal congregation Elim in Örebro. After visiting Aage Samuelsen's Maran Ata meetings in Oslo in 1959, he resolved to spread the movement in Sweden, becoming one of the founders of the Maranata movement there. He founded the first Swedish Maranata congregation in Örebro in 1960. He was one of the founders of Maran Ata in Oslo, where he was also a pastor from 2001 to 2004. Later that year, he moved to the United States. Bergagård wrote the Swedish text to the song . The tune was written by Jack & Jim Elsie, under the original title ''I am going to a city, where the roses never fade''.
