"A World of Our Own" is a 1965 single written by Tom Springfield and was an international hit for the Seekers. The single peaked at number 19 on the Hot 100 and number 2 on the Easy Listening charts. It reached number 3 in the U.K. and number 2 in Australia. Three years later, "A World of Our Own" was recorded by Sonny James. It was his sixth number one in a row, and 26th hit on the U.S. country music chart. The single spent three weeks at number one and a total of 15 weeks on the chart. In 1994 the single was re-released in the UK. ''A World of Our Own'' is the fourth studio album by the Australian group The Seekers. The album was released in 1965. In some countries, the album was titled The Seekers. The album peaked at number 19 in the Billboard 200 and number 5 in the United Kingdom. Reception Richie Unterberber from AllMusic said; "The title track is an acceptable pop-folk song in the "I'll Never Find Another You" fashion. But the rest is rather ho-hum fare in the style of Peter, Paul & Mary with a slightly more prominent beat. Bruce Woodley sneaks in with a couple of compositions, but most of this is traditional folk with far less pop flair than Tom Springfield's songs, such as "This Land Is Your Land", "Allentown Jail", "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "You Can Tell the World." A couple early Bob Dylan covers and a version of Ian Tyson's "Four Strong Winds" reinforce the sense of a group whose sound was still more suited for 1963 than 1965, on album at least." The Seekers
The Seekers were an Australian folk-influenced pop quartet, originally formed in Melbourne in 1962. They were the first Australian pop music group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States. They were especially popular during the 1960s with their best-known configuration of Judith Durham on vocals, piano and tambourine; Athol Guy on double bass and vocals; Keith Potger on twelve-string guitar, banjo and vocals; and Bruce Woodley on guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals. Radio Orion was a national FM radio station in South Africa, operated by the South African Broadcasting Corporation. It replaced the All Night Service on 1 March 1983, and was on the air for ten years until its final broadcast on 31 May 1993. The main host was Robin Alexander. The station broadcast at night, beginning at 9:30 PM—following the transmission of Radio Suid-Afrika—and continued until dawn. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts. Springbok Radio (spelled ''Springbokradio'' in Afrikaans, ) was a South African nationwide radio station that operated from 1950 to 1986. History SABC's decision in December 1945 to develop a commercial service was constrained by post-war financial issues. After almost five years of investigation and after consulting Lord Reith of the BBC and the South African government, it decided to introduce commercial radio to supplement the SABC's public service English and Afrikaans networks and help solve the SABC's financial problems.
