Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Lost Film
A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." A modern melodrama is a dramatic work in which the plot, typically sensationalized and for a strong emotional appeal, takes precedence over detailed characterization. Melodramas typically concentrate on dialogue that is often bombastic or excessively sentimental, rather than action. Characters are often flat, and written to fulfill stereotypes. Louis Payne
William Louis Payne (January 13, 1873 – August 14, 1953) was an American character actor of the silent and sound film eras, as well as legitimate theater. Biography Born in Pennsylvania, Payne's acting life began in the first decade of the 1900s, when he appeared in the Broadway play, ''Her Majesty, the Girl Queen of Nordenmark'', which ran at the Manhattan Theatre in 1900. In 1903 he played Nathaniel Winkle in ''Mr. Pickwick'' at the Herald Square Theatre and later the Grand Opera House. In 1906, he married famous stage actress Mrs. Leslie Carter, fifteen years her junior, and remained married to her until her death in 1937. He made his film debut in 1915's '' DuBarry'', a film created to highlight Carter, who was a protégé of the playwright David Belasco. Belasco wrote the stage play of the same name on which the film is based, and in which Carter starred on Broadway. Mabel Julienne Scott
Mabel Julienne Scott (November 2, 1892 – October 1, 1976) was an American stage and silent movie actress. Biography Scott was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Joseph and Martie Scott, of French and Norwegian heritage. A graduate of Northwestern Conservatory in Minneapolis, she also attended Stanley Girls' College. She came to New York City at the age of 17. When she failed to land the job she wanted, Scott played for a time with a stock company in Omaha, Nebraska. Scott made her Broadway (Manhattan) stage debut in ''The Barrier'' by Rex Beach. Scott's feature film debut came in ''The Lash of Destiny'' (1916). In 1926, she played the role of the mother in ''The Lullaby'', performed at the Pasadena Playhouse. One critic commented that Scott was uniquely suited to play the part for which she was cast. Other theatrical appearances of note are roles in ''Painted Faces'', with comedian Joe E.
