Dødheimsgard
Dødheimsgard (also known as DHG) is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed in 1994. Dødheimsgard originally played black metal, but 1999's ''666 International'' saw them change their style into experimental and avant-garde/industrial metal. In 2000, they shortened their name to DHG. Their name,"Dødheimsgard" is a contraction of three words: ''Død'' which means 'death', ''heim'' which means 'home' and ''gard'' which means (at least in this context) 'realm'. A natural translation into English would be "Realm of Death". History Founding of the band and ''Kronet til Konge'' (1994–1995) The band was founded in 1994. At the time they consisted of three members: Vicotnik (drums, backing vocals), Fenriz (bass, additional vocals) and Aldrahn (lead vocals and guitar) This line up recorded a promotional demo before releasing their debut album ''Kronet til Konge'' on Malicious Records in 1995. After the release of the album they recorded another promotional demo. ''Monumental Posse ...

Avant-garde Metal
Avant-garde metal (also known as avant-metal, experimental metal, and experimental) is a subgenre of heavy metal music loosely defined by use of experimentation and innovative, avant-garde elements, including non-standard and unconventional sounds, instruments, song structures, playing styles, and vocal techniques. Avant-garde metal is influenced by progressive rock and extreme metal, particularly death metal, and is closely related to progressive metal. Some local scenes include Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, and Seattle in the United States, Oslo in Norway, and Tokyo in Japan. Characteristics "Avant-garde metal" is interchangeable with "experimental metal" and "avant-metal", and may also refer to a separate genre of "atmospheric metal" or "post-metal", which was named in reference to post-rock. Avant-garde metal is related to progressive metal, but avant-garde metal often has more experimentation, while progressive metal usually has a tighter focus on traditio ...

Black Metal
Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Common traits include Tempo#Beats per minute, fast tempos, a Screaming (music)#Black metal, shrieking vocal style, heavily distorted Electric guitar, guitars played with tremolo picking, raw (Lo-fi music, lo-fi) recording, unconventional song structures, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Artists often appear in corpse paint and adopt pseudonyms. During the 1980s, several thrash metal and death metal bands formed a prototype for black metal. This "first wave" included bands such as Venom (band), Venom, Bathory (band), Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A second wave arose in the early 1990s, spearheaded by Norwegian bands such as Mayhem (band), Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal (band), Immortal, Emperor (band), Emperor, Satyricon (band), Satyricon and Gorgoroth. The early Norwegian black metal scene developed the style of their forebears into a distinct genre. Norwegian-inspired black metal ...

Peaceville Records
Peaceville Records is a British independent heavy metal record label. The label was founded by Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw (of the bands Instigators and Civilised Society) in Dewsbury, England in 1987, who was also a one-time drummer of Sore Throat. Originally a tape label releasing anarcho punk, the releases moved towards metal through crust punk and similar forms of metal-influenced English hardcore punk. Halmshaw started running the label full-time in 1988, although the original tape label incarnation was founded in 1981 as a vehicle for releasing Instigators demo cassettes. The label is therefore known for the connection between doom metal and the 1980s English crust punk scene. Sister labels 'Deaf' and 'Dreamtime' concentrated more on thrash metal (Deaf) and psychedelic electronica (Dreamtime). However, the bands My Dying Bride, Darkthrone, Katatonia, Autopsy, Anathema, Paradise Lost, and Opeth - known as the 'Peaceville Stable' - have been the label's most recognizable acts ...

Supervillain Outcast
''Supervillain Outcast'' is the fourth full-length album by Norwegian black metal band Dødheimsgard, now under the moniker DHG. It was released on March 26, 2007, by Moonfog Productions. It was their only release to feature Kvohst on vocals, who replaced Aldrahn after he left the band in 2004. With this album, the band continues the avant-garde/black metal fusion sound they undertook on their previous album, ''666 International''; however, the industrial-esque style that was preponderant on ''666 International'' is toned down in order to focus more on the electronic interludes, in a style closer to DHG's EP ''Satanic Art'' (1998). Carl-Michael Eide recorded the drums for the album prior to an accident that left his legs paralyzed. A double-disc deluxe edition of ''Supervillain Outcast'' was released by Peaceville Records in 2012. The extra disc contained seven previously unreleased instrumental tracks; "Senseoffender" is an outtake from the album, and the following six tracks ...

Black Medium Current
''Black Medium Current'' is the sixth full-length album by Norwegian metal band Dødheimsgard, also known as DHG. It was released on April 14, 2023, by Peaceville Records. Reception The album has received positive reviews. ''Invisible Oranges'' noted that the album has "the calm yet impassioned churning of specifically Norwegian black metal, overtly reminiscent of '' Bergtatt'' or ''Transilvanian Hunger''. Yet as the lengthy phrases begin to unfurl and lengthen, and the vibrant being that is formed as ''Black Medium Current'' becomes more and more known, a sense of awe overcomes you as the challenge of understanding presents itself. The familiar references to yesteryear are the exchange for the amount of attention you’ll need to fully consume this undertaking of a record." Kez Whelan of ''The Quietus'' stated in an article reviewing albums released that month, "Despite all these disparate influences, ''Black Medium Current'' as a whole feels more fluid and less cluttered than it ...
