A Tale Of Five Cities
''A Tale of Five Cities'' ( it, Passaporto per l'oriente and released as ''A Tale of Five Women'' in the US) is a 1951 British-Italian international co-production drama film directed by Romolo Marcellini and five other directors. The five cities cited in the title are: Rome, Paris, Berlin, London, and Vienna. Synopsis When Englishman Bob Mitchell (Bonar Colleano) leaves his longtime home in America to enlist in the Royal Air Force, his grueling combat experiences result in a loss of memory. As Bob has no identity tags, doctors unknowingly repatriate him to America, where magazine editor Lesley (Barbara Kelly) learns of his condition. All Bob can recall are five women from various European cities, so the magazine sponsors a trip for him to visit each, hoping he'll learn crucial details of his identity. Hans May
Hans May (11 July 1886 – 1 January 1959) was an Austrian-born composer who went into exile in Britain in 1936 after the Nazis came to power in his homeland, being of Jewish descent. May first gained attention as a composer during the 1920s and 1930s, writing German language songs such as ''Ein Lied geht um die Welt'' ( 1933 ) and ''Es wird im Leben dir mehr genommen als gegeben'' (1936), gaining considerable popularity in Europe through recordings by Joseph Schmidt and Richard Tauber. He also wrote scores for silent movies in Berlin and Paris. Geoffrey Sumner
Geoffrey Sumner (20 November 1908, Ilfracombe, Devon – 29 September 1989, Alderney, Channel Islands) was a British actor. As well as appearing in a number of films, he was also a commentator for British Movietone News., His parents were Edmund and Kathleen Marion (Brook). Carl Jaffe
Carl Jaffe (21 March 1902 – 12 April 1974) was a German actor. Jaffe trained on the stage in his native Hamburg, Kassel and Wiesbaden before moving to Berlin, where his career began to develop. In 1933 Jaffe changed his stage name to Frank Alwar, but in 1936, with the situation for Jews in Germany rapidly deteriorating, he made the decision to migrate to the United Kingdom. He remained in the UK for the rest of his life and appeared in more than 50 films and many television productions. Throughout his British career he was often cast as German or Central European characters, usually in supporting roles, and often with a war, crime or espionage setting. Karin Himboldt
Karin Himboldt (1920–2005) was a German film actress.Goble p.197 She is perhaps best known for her roles in the Heinz Rühmann comedy films '' Quax the Crash Pilot'' (1941) and ''Die Feuerzangenbowle'' (1944). Her career was damaged in 1944 when the Nazi regime banned her from filming: Himboldt had denied the Nazi salute at the premiere of ''Die Feuerzangenbowle'' and was also married to a so-called " Half-Jew". Barbara Kelly (5 October 1923 – 15 January 2007) was a Canadian-British actress, best known for her television roles in the United Kingdom opposite her husband Bernard Braden in the 1950s and 1960s, and for many appearances as a panelist on the British version of ''What's My Line?''
