''A Symphony of British Music'' is the official soundtrack album of the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. It became available as digital download on 12 August 2012 and as a two-disc CD on 20 August 2012. It features studio recordings of the performances at the closing ceremony for the London Games. Pop music is a genre of popular music that originated in its modern form during the mid-1950s in the United States and the United Kingdom. The terms ''popular music'' and ''pop music'' are often used interchangeably, although the former describes all music that is popular and includes many disparate styles. During the 1950s and 1960s, pop music encompassed rock and roll and the youth-oriented styles it influenced. ''Rock'' and ''pop'' music remained roughly synonymous until the late 1960s, after which ''pop'' became associated with music that was more commercial, ephemeral, and accessible. The Pet Shop Boys are an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1981. Consisting of primary vocalist Neil Tennant and keyboardist Chris Lowe, they have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and were listed as the most successful duo in UK music history in the 1999 edition of ''The Guinness Book of Records''. Elspeth Hanson
Elspeth Hanson (born 12 May 1986) is the violist of the all female string quartet, Bond. Biography Hanson was born in London and was educated at Theale Green Community School and the School of St Helen and St Katharine in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. She started learning the violin aged 12 and at 16 won a place as first violin with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain with whom she has toured the UK and played live at the BBC Proms. Previously she had recorded solos with the London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the City of Prague Philharmonia. Elspeth is studying towards a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music with Richard Deakin. She played and sang at The Southbank for Oxfam Aid. Tania Davis
Tania Davis (born 4 July 1975) is the first violinist of the British/Australian European classical music, classical Crossover (music), crossover string quartet Bond (band), Bond. Originally the violist of the quartet, she became the first violinist of the group in 2008 when its original first violinist Haylie Ecker left the group. Elspeth Hanson subsequently joined the group in 2008 as the violist. Davis was educated at SCEGGS Darlinghurst in Sydney before acquiring a first-class Bachelor of Music honors degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and then moving on to gain a postgraduate diploma in performance with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her experience includes playing with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony and the London Symphony Orchestra. Eos Chater
Eos Counsell (born 27 January 1976), also known as Eos or previously Eos Chater, is the second violinist of the all-female classical crossover string quartet Bond. Counsell has an honours degree from the Royal College of Music in London and is from Cardiff, Wales. Before Bond, her work included writing string arrangements and playing with many pop groups including The Divine Comedy, Cocteau Twins, Julian Cope, Gabrielle and Mark Knopfler. Here Comes The Sun
"Here Comes the Sun" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1969 album ''Abbey Road''. It was written by George Harrison and is one of his best-known compositions. Harrison wrote the song in early 1969 at the country house of his friend Eric Clapton, where Harrison had chosen to play truant for the day to avoid attending a meeting at the Beatles' Apple Corps organisation. The lyrics reflect his relief at the arrival of spring and the temporary respite he was experiencing from the band's business affairs. The Beatles recorded "Here Comes the Sun" at London's EMI Studios in the summer of 1969. "Running Up That Hill", titled "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" on some releases, is a song by the British singer and songwriter Kate Bush. It was released in the United Kingdom as the lead single from Bush's album ''Hounds of Love'' on 5 August 1985 by EMI Records. The lyrics imagine a scenario in which a man and a woman make "a deal with God" to exchange places. Bush wrote and produced "Running Up That Hill" using a Fairlight CMI synthesiser and a LinnDrum drum machine. "One Day Like This" is the second single from English band Elbow (band), Elbow's fourth studio album, ''The Seldom Seen Kid'', released on 2 June 2008 on two 7-inch vinyl records and one CD single. Elbow (band)
Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals) and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals). They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016.
