''A Sister of Six'' is a 1916 American silent Western film produced by the Fine Arts Film Company and distributed by Triangle Film Corporation. The film was directed by brothers Chester M. and Sidney Franklin. This was Bessie Love's first starring role. The film is considered lost, as only a fragment survives. Production The hacienda set was built on the Lasky Ranch. Rehearsals for the film commenced on August 4, 1916. Plot In 1860, Prudence (Love) and her six siblings are orphaned when their father is killed by bandits. Prudence becomes a surrogate mother to them, and moves the family from Southern California to New England to live with an old sailor uncle. When they learn that gold was discovered on their land in California, they all return to claim the gold by fighting the bandits who have taken over their land. Carmen De Rue
Carmen De Rue (often billed as "Baby" Carmen De Rue, and occasionally as Freddy DeRue) was an American child actress and dancer who appeared in an estimated 200 Hollywood films in the 1910s. Biography Carmen was born in Pueblo, Colorado, to Eugene DeRue and Grace Butner. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was a young child, and she soon began appearing in Hollywood films. Her father eventually became a producer and director after working as a reporter at ''The Los Angeles Times''. Carmen retired from acting on-screen by the time she reached adulthood, although she worked as a professional dancer for a time. She married Harold Bjorgo, the owner of an Eagle Rock Grocery Store, in the 1928. That marriage ended in divorce a year later. She later married Fred Schrott. She died in 1986 in North Hollywood, California, after suffering a heart attack. Keystone Studios was an early film studio founded in Edendale, California (which is now a part of Echo Park) on July 4, 1912 as the Keystone Pictures Studio by Mack Sennett with backing from actor-writer Adam Kessel (1866–1946) and Charles O. Baumann (1874–1931), owners of the New York Motion Picture Company (founded 1909). The company, referred to at its office as The Keystone Film Company, filmed in and around Glendale and Silver Lake, Los Angeles for several years, and its films were distributed by the Mutual Film Corporation between 1912 and 1915. The Keystone film brand declined rapidly after Sennett went independent in 1917. The name ''Keystone'' was taken from the side of one of the cars of a passing Pennsylvania Railroad train (Keystone State being the nickname of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) during the initial meeting of Sennett, Kessel and Baumann in New York. Mack Sennett
Mack Sennett (born Michael Sinnott; January 17, 1880 – November 5, 1960) was a Canadian-American film actor, director, and producer, and studio head, known as the 'King of Comedy'. Born in Danville, Quebec, in 1880, he started in films in the Biograph Company of New York City, and later opened Keystone Studios in Edendale, California in 1912. Keystone possessed the first fully enclosed film stage, and Sennett became famous as the originator of slapstick routines such as pie-throwing and car-chases, as seen in the Keystone Cops films. He also produced short features that displayed his Bathing Beauties, many of whom went on to develop successful acting careers. Sennett's work in sound movies was less successful, and he was bankrupted in 1933. In 1938 he was presented with an honorary Academy Award for his contribution to film comedy.
