A Sense Of Loss (film)
''A Sense of Loss'' is a 1972 documentary film directed and produced by Marcel Ophüls on The Troubles in Northern Ireland. Production ''A Sense of Loss'' was shot in December 1971 and January 1972, at the height of The Troubles. It contains interviews with ordinary Irish Protestants and Irish Catholics, politicians and British Army soldiers, as well as news clips of bombings and violence. Interviewees include Noël Browne, William Craig, Seán Cronin, Bernadette Devlin, Michael Farrell, Gerry Fitt, Billy Hull, Jack Lynch, John McKeague, Reginald Maudling and Harry Tuzo. Anne Lewis worked as assistant editor on the film, saying that it taught her how to "structure massive quantities of documentary material without the use of narration and about telling the truth even if it doesn't fit a popular notion of political reality." Marcel Ophüls
Marcel Ophuls (; born 1 November 1927) is a German-French documentary film maker and former actor, best known for his films ''The Sorrow and the Pity'' and '' Hôtel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie''. Life and career Ophuls was born in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of Hildegard Wall and the director Max Ophüls. His family left Germany in 1933 following the coming to power of the Nazi Party and settled in Paris, France. Following the invasion of France by Germany in May 1940 they were forced to flee to the Vichy zone, remaining in hiding for over a year before crossing the Pyrenees into Spain in order to travel to the United States, arriving there in December 1941. Marcel attended Hollywood High School, then Occidental College, Los Angeles. He spent a brief period serving in a U.S. Army theatrical unit in Japan in 1946, then studied at the University of California, Berkeley. NORAID
NORAID, officially the Irish Northern Aid Committee, is an Irish American membership organization founded after the start of the Troubles in Northern Ireland in 1969. The organization states its mission is to aid in the creation of a United Ireland in the spirit of the 1916 Easter Proclamation and to support the Northern Ireland Peace process. During the Troubles NORAID was known for raising funds for the Provisional Irish Republican Army and other Nationalist community groups. NORAID runs a newsletter titled ''The Irish People'' which provides analysis and coverage of ongoing events in Northern Ireland.
