A Roaring Adventure
''A Roaring Adventure'' is a 1925 American silent Western film directed by Clifford Smith and starring Jack Hoxie, Mary McAllister and Marin Sais. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Duffy Burns (Hoxie), easterner since college days, visits his father in the cattle country and learns that rustlers are depleting the stock. He obtains employment on his father's ranch without disclosing his identity, and falls in love with Gloria Carpenter (McAllister), daughter of one of the thieves. In league with him is Katherine Dodd (Sais), a widow he has befriended, and Gloria cannot understand their friendship. Duffy and a shriff's posse frustrate the thieves attempt to "clean up," Gloria's father reforms, and Duffy wins the affections of the young woman. Clifford Smith (director)
Clifford Smith (1894–1937) was an American film director who also occasionally film actor, acted and film producer, produced. He directed over eighty films between 1915 and 1937 as well as several serial film, serials, doing much of his work for Universal Pictures. Primarily a director of western film, westerns he worked with leading genre stars such as William S. Hart. Jack Pratt
Jack Pratt, born John Harold Pratt, (1878–1938) was a Canadian film director and actor. He directed several films and acted in dozens more. As a director, his work included screen adaptations of novels. Known as Smiling Jack, he married actress Betty Brice. She starred in the 1916 film ''Her Bleeding Heart'' he directed and was also in the film '' Gods of Fate''. He was hired by Lubin as a director in 1915. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Francis Ford (actor)
Francis Ford (born Francis Joseph Feeney; August 14, 1881 – September 5, 1953) was an American film actor, writer and director. He was the mentor and elder brother of film director John Ford. He also appeared in many of the latter's movies, including ''Young Mr. Lincoln'' (1939) and ''The Quiet Man'' (1952). Biography Ford was born in Portland, Maine. He was the son of John Augustine Feeney, who was born in the village of Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland, on June 15, 1854. His mother was Barbara "Abbey" Curran. By 1878, John had moved to Portland, Maine, and opened a saloon, at 42 Center Street, that used a false front to pose as grocery store. John opened four others in following years.
