A Million Miles Away (album)
''A Million Miles Away'' is the second installment in '' The Emo Diaries'' series of compilation albums, released April 14, 1998, by Deep Elm Records. As with all installments in the series, the label had an open submissions policy for bands to submit material for the compilation, and as a result the music does not all fit within the emo style. As with the rest of the series, ''A Million Miles Away'' features mostly unsigned bands contributing songs that were previously unreleased. Deep Elm Records
Deep Elm Records is an independent record label releasing albums by bands such as Lights & Motion, The Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, The White Octave, and Planes Mistaken for Stars. It also released the compilation series ''The Emo Diaries''. History Deep Elm Records started in New York City by John Szuch. Deep Elm's first release was the single "Anthemic Tune" by Curdlefur in 1995. Its first album was by Camber in March 1997. In 2006, Deep Elm Records signed its first UK act, Free Diamonds. By 2008, Deep Elm stopped pressing physical CDs and vinyl, effectively becoming a digital only label. The label has refused to be bought out by a larger company, and is currently located in Maui, Hawaii. ''Vice'' described Deep Elm as "a seminal label for the 90s/early 2000s emo scene". The Appleseed Cast
The Appleseed Cast is an American rock band from Lawrence, Kansas. The band was founded in the early days of emo by singer-guitarist Christopher Crisci and drummer Louie Ruiz. The Appleseed Cast has steadily evolved over the release of eight full-length albums with Crisci as the main songwriter. The band has never broken up, but the lineup has changed over the years. Currently, the band's lineup includes Christopher Crisci, Ben Kimball, Nick Fredrickson, and Sean Bergman. Major acclaim first came in the early 2000s and earned them a 9.0 from Pitchfork for their album set ''Low Level Owl, Vol I and Vol II''. Tess Wiley (born November 5, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter. Early life Tess Wiley was born in Dallas, Texas in 1974 to a Christian family. Her mother was a poet Kathryn Wiley while her father was a musician Fletch Wiley, one of '' The Disciples''. Tess's childhood was rather rough, she used to travel a lot from Houston to Seattle to San Francisco then back to Houston... The Jazz June is an American emo band from Kutztown, Pennsylvania. In 2016, ''Rolling Stone'' placed the band's album ''The Medicine'' at number 33 on its list of the 40 Greatest Emo Albums of All Time. History The Jazz June was formed in 1996 by students attending Kutztown University. The group recorded its first full-length album in 1997; their first two albums were recorded through Canadian record label Workshop Records. In 1998, the band signed with Initial Records and went on to release three albums through the record label. They disbanded in 2003 after four full-length albums, but reunited for benefit shows in 2006 and the release of an outtakes-and-rarities compilation the following year. |

Brandtson was an American rock band from Cleveland, Ohio. History The band formed in 1996 and first recorded for a Stead Fast Records compilation entitled ''Radiowaves and Gibberish'' in 1997. Soon after the group signed with Deep Elm Records, appearing on their '' Emo Diaries'' series before issuing their debut LP, ''Letterbox'', late in 1998.
