A Home Too Far
''A Home Too Far'' is a 1990 Taiwanese war drama film directed by Kevin Chu, starring Andy Lau, Tou Chung-hua and Ko Chun-hsiung. The film is based on Bo Yang's novel, ''The Alien Realm'', which is the story of the Republic of China Army's 93rd Division taking refuge in Santikhiri (Mae Salong) on the border between Myanmar and Thailand. Plot In the early 1950s, the Chinese Civil War has ended with the defeat of Republic of China and the establishment of the People's Republic of China by the communists. Soldiers from the 93rd Division of the Republic of China Army take their families with them and leave southwestern China by entering northern Burma (Myanmar). The hike through the jungle is full of disasters and shortages of supplies, but the survivors reach and settle within the China–Burma border. Bo Yang
Bo Yang (; 7 March 1920 – 29 April 2008), sometimes also erroneously called Bai Yang, was a Chinese historian, novelist, philosopher, poet, and politician based in Taiwan. He is also regarded as a social critic. According to his own memoir, the exact date of his birthday was unknown even to himself. He later adopted 7 March, the date of his 1968 imprisonment, as his birthday. Biography Boyang was born as Guō Dìngshēng () in Kaifeng, Henan Province, China, with family origins in Huixian. Boyang's father changed his son's name to Guō Lìbāng () to facilitate a transfer to another school. Bo Yang later changed his name to Guo Yìdòng, also spelled Kuo I-tung (). In high school, Boyang participated in youth organisations of the Kuomintang, the then-ruling party of the Republic of China, and joined the Kuomintang itself in 1938. The Kuomintang in Burma ( zh, t=泰緬孤軍, p=Tài Miǎn gūjūn, l=Thailand–Burma orphaned army) were Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party) troops that fled from Communist-controlled China to Burma in 1950 after their defeat by the Communists in the Chinese Civil War.
