''A History of the Blue Movie'' is a 1970 Graffiti Productions/Sherpix, Inc. documentary pornographic movie. Directed by Alex de Renzy, this compilation of early shorts combines blue movies, dating from 1915 to 1970, with an uncredited narrator. One of the first attempts to compile some of the oldest available American porn movies for a theater audience, ''A History of the Blue Movie'' includes scenes from ''Grass Sandwich'' (1915), which is one of the earliest known blue movies in existence, along with several classics in their entirety, such as the controversial ''The Nun Story'', ''Ever Ready'', ''The Janitor'', ''Peeping Tom'', and '' Smart Alec'' (1951) with legendary stripper Candy Barr. Alex De Renzy
Alexander de Renzy (August 13, 1935 – June 8, 2001) was an American director and producer of pornographic movies. Born in New York City, de Renzy served in the United States Air Force as a Survival Instructor. Back in the United States, he began making documentary films in San Francisco. In October 1969, he went to Denmark to attend ''Sex 69'', the first porn trade show hosted in Copenhagen after the legalization of adult pornography there. This resulted in his first movie, ''Censorship in Denmark: A New Approach'' (1970), which was released the following year. He was the editor on ''Sexual Encounter Group'' (1970), was a cinematographer on seven movies, and wrote five screenplays. His production ''Lady Freaks'' (1973) introduced porn star legend Annette Haven. His films also include the two 1970s porn classics ''Babyface'' (1977) and ''Pretty Peaches'' (1978). Compilation Films
A compilation film, or compilation movie is a film composed of scenes and shots taken from two or more prior films and edited together so as to make a new film, whether on the same or a different subject. The most common example would be a documentary film on an historical event composed of footage from various newsreels and other film documentaries on the same subject. New footage and/or a new soundtrack may also be included in a compilation film, but the compiled, older footage makes up the majority of its principal material. Compilation film does not include, however, a simple editing together of several short films, complete in themselves and distinguished as such from each others, which should be considered as film anthologies.
