''A Escrava Isaura'' (, ''Isaura, The Slave Girl'') is a novel written by the Brazilian writer Bernardo Guimarães. It was first published in 1875 in literature, 1875 by Casa Garnier publishers in Rio de Janeiro. With this novel, Bernardo Guimarães became very famous throughout that country, even said to be admired by Brazil's last Emperor Dom Pedro II. In 1976, a Brazilian telenovela adaptation produced by Rede Globo was titled ''Escrava Isaura (1976 TV series), Escrava Isaura''. It was a worldwide success. In 2004, a second Brazilian telenovela was produced by TV Record. It was also titled ''A Escrava Isaura (2004 TV series), A Escrava Isaura''. This adaptation also aired on Telemundo in the United States. This version was dubbed into Spanish language, Spanish and titled ''La Esclava Isaura''. Escrava Isaura (1976 TV Series)
(Isaura: Slave Girl) is a 1976 Brazilian telenovela produced by TV Globo, originally broadcast between October 11, 1976 and February 5, 1977. Based on the 1865 novel of the same name by 19th century abolitionist writer Bernardo Guimarães, it tells the story of the struggles of Isaura, a mixed-race slave, to find happiness during the Brazilian Empire. It starred Lucélia Santos in the titular role and Rubens de Falco as slave owner Leôncio Almeida, the main antagonist. It was adapted by Gilberto Braga and directed by Herval Rossano and Milton Gonçalves, running 100 episodes. Plot The story is set in Brazil in the 1860s, 20 years before the emancipation of slaves.
