A Dog's Love
''A Dog's Love'' is a 1914 American short silent fantasy drama film with subtitles, directed by Jack Harvey on his directorial debut. It stars Shep the Dog, Helen Badgley, and Arthur Bauer. The film is about a dog who loses his best friend, when a young girl is killed in an automobile accident, and focuses on his emotions in dealing with his loss. Well-received because of its "universally appealing" theme, the dog's emotions were reported as surpassing the child's histrionics. The film was shot on one reel by the Thanhouser Company, in total. It was shot in standard 35mm and a spherical 1.37:1 format. It was distributed by the Mutual Film Corporation upon release. Kitty Kelly of the ''Chicago Tribune'' called it a "miniature masterpiece." Jack Harvey (actor And Director)
Jack Harvey (born John Joseph Harvey; September 16, 1881 – November 9, 1954) was an American film actor, director and screenwriter, noted for his short films of the silent period. Among his directed films are ''A Dog's Love'' (1914) (the first of many collaborations with Shep, a well-trained Collie of the Thanhouser Company), ''When Fate Rebelled'' (1915), '' Fairy Fern Seed'' (1915), '' Kaiser's Finish'' (1918) and his last film ''No Babies Wanted'' (1928), accredited as John J. Harvey. He continued to act, but most of his roles after the 1920s were very minor and uncredited in films such as ''Cardinal Richelieu'' (1935) and ''Anchors Aweigh'' (1945). He also continued to write for films until his death in 1954, the last of which was '' City Beneath the Sea'' (1953). Ring A Ring O' Roses
"Ring a Ring o' Roses", "Ring a Ring o' Rosie", or (in the United States) "Ring Around the Rosie", is a traditional nursery rhyme, folk song and playground singing game. Descriptions first emerge in the mid-19th century, but are reported as dating from decades before, and similar rhymes are known from across Europe. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 7925. The lyrics vary, but a modern interpretation based on modern lyrics that related the words to the plague in England became widespread post-WWII, even though it appears to be a false folk etymology. Lyrics It is unknown what the earliest wording of the rhyme was or when it began. Many versions of the game have a group of children form a ring, dance in a circle around a person, and stoop or curtsy with the final line.
