''A Daughter of Australia'' is a 1922 Australian silent film directed by Lawson Harris. It concerns a rich squatter, Arthur Fullerton (Charles Beethan), and his daughter, Barbara (Yvonne Pavis). It is considered a lost film. Plot A young English aristocrat, Hugh Ranleigh, falls for Barbara Fullerton, but is falsely accused of murdering a gambler in a night club and escapes to Australia. He finds work on a cattle station and falls for the squatter's daughter – who turns out to be Barbara. Eventually he proves his innocence. Lawson Harris
William Lawson Harris (June 30, 1897 – March 31, 1948) was an American director, actor, producer, and writer who made a number of films in Australia. He came to Australia originally at the behest of Arthur Shirley to work as production manager on '' The Throwback'' (1920) and stayed out there for a number of years. Harris was the father of actor and director John Derek. Biography Harris was born on June 30, 1897, in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, the son of William James Harris (1874–1908) and Elizabeth Bettie Hawley (1877–?). He moved to Australia in 1920 with Arthur Shirley and set up an acting school. In 1921, he announced he would make a film about the return of the Jews to Jerusalem. Instead he made '' Circumstance'' (1922) for Austral Super Films, a company he had established with Cecil Hargraves. They launched a second film almost immediately. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. Isabella Mercia McDonagh (3 January 1899 – 5 March 1982), also known as Marie Lorraine, was an Australian actress who often worked in collaboration with her sisters Paulette and Phyllis. Isabella, alongside her two sisters made history by owning and running a film production company, therefore becoming the first Australian women to do so. She visited Hollywood in 1933 but did not elect to stay on and make a career there. Gilbert Charles Warren Emery (1882 – 24 December 1934) was an Australian actor best known for his performances as Ginger Mick in the silent films ''The Sentimental Bloke'' (1919) and ''Ginger Mick'' (1920). These were directed by Raymond Longford with whom Emery had acted on stage in ''The Fatal Wedding''. Emery moved to Los Angeles in 1921 and stayed there for the rest of his life, teaching in an acting school. He died on the same day as actor friend Walter Cornock, who had played the role of the Bloke on stage.
