A Chorus of Storytellers is the fifth studio album by The Album Leaf, released in 2010 by Sub Pop. The album was recorded by Ryan Hadlock in the frosty month of February 2009 at Bear Creek Studio just outside Seattle. The Album Leaf
The Album Leaf is an American musical project founded in San Diego, California, in 1998 by Jimmy LaValle. He is known for his use of electronics, synthesizer, and Rhodes piano. His performances often feature projected visual art. History Inception The Album Leaf officially began in 1998 as the solo project of Jimmy LaValle, guitarist for San Diego, California-based post-rock instrumental band Tristeza. LaValle has also performed in several other San Diego-area bands, including The Crimson Curse, The Locust, Swing Kids, and GoGoGo Airheart. ''An Orchestrated Rise to Fall'' During downtime in the fall of 1998, LaValle began playing drums for San Diego band GoGoGo Airheart. Their singer and guitarist, Mike Vermillion (who later inspired the song name "Vermillion" on ''One Day I'll Be on Time''), recorded LaValle doing improvised material on a Rhodes piano to a vintage Roland drum machine. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Sundlaugin (, ''the swimming pool'') is a recording studio located near Álafoss in the town of Mosfellsbær in Iceland known for being the recording and rehearsal location of post-rock band Sigur Rós. The location was originally a swimming pool built in the 1930s which had been abandoned when Sigur Rós purchased it in 1999 and converted it and adjacent buildings into a studio. The band originally intended to record their third album, entitled '' ( )'', in an abandoned NATO tracking base in the northernmost mountain in Iceland, but after inspection decided it was too impractical. Shortly after they found the abandoned pool lot in a rural neighborhood in Mosfellsbær. They bought the lot and transformed it into a studio. In order to fit the massive mixing console into the building, part of the roof was opened up and the console was lowered with a crane. Bear Creek Studio is a residential recording studio located in Woodinville, Washington, situated in a barn on a 10 acre farm. Known for its "rural farmhouse" location, a number of artists have recorded at the studio, including: Brandi Carlile, Train, The Lumineers, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, James Brown, Modest Mouse, Geoff Tate, The Tragically Hip, Eric Clapton and Lionel Richie. Ryan Hadlock
Ryan Hadlock is an American record producer, best known for his production work on platinum-selling album ''The Lumineers'' by The Lumineers. Career Hadlock has been around music his entire life, as his parents Joe and Manny Hadlock, started Bear Creek Studio in 1977. The studio has remained family-owned for two generations, and is now headed by Ryan. Joe Hadlock was in a number of Seattle bands, and their family home and studio were places where creativity was always encouraged, and part of the fabric of business and socializing. Ryan grew up around famous musicians, but also many talented studio players, who didn't find fame, but taught him much about how records were crafted. ''Drowned in Sound'', sometimes abbreviated to ''DiS'', is a UK-based music webzine financed by artist management company Silentway. Founded by editor Sean Adams, the site features reviews, news, interviews, and discussion forums.
