Anjaparavanda Bopaiah Subbaiah is a former Indian hockey goalkeeper and coach. Early life He was born in Madikeri ( Kodagu district, Karnataka) into the Kodava community. He played hockey for his school, St. Michael's Madikeri, as a fourteen year old. He was a product of Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel, Bangalore. Career Subbaiah has participated in the Commonwealth games. He was part of the 1998 gold-winning Asian Games Indian team. He is a recipient of the Arjuna Award The Arjuna Award, officially known as Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, is the second-highest sporting honour of India, the highest being the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Madikeri
Madikeri is a hill station town in Madikeri taluk and headquarters of Kodagu district in Karnataka, India. Etymology Madikeri was known as ''Muddu Raja Keri'', which meant Mudduraja's town, was named after the prominent Haleri king Mudduraja who ruled Kodagu from 1633 to 1687. From 1834, during the British Raj, it was called ''Mercara''. It was later renamed to Madikeri by the Government of Mysore. History The history of Madikeri is related to the history of Kodagu.
