AZS-AWFiS Gdańsk (rowing)
AZS-AWFiS Gdańsk is a Polish multisports club based in Gdańsk, Poland. It is the university sports club for the Academy of Physical Education and Sport Jędrzej Śniadeckiego in Gdańsk, and has seen many of the club's teams becoming professional and at times competitive within their respective sports. The club currently has sections in 9 sports, these sports being; athletics, bobsleigh, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rowing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, and a section for universal sports, of the focused sports many athletes from these sections have represented Poland at the Olympics. While these sections are no longer active within the sports club, in the early 2000s the club had competitive teams in rugby and handball. Rowing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Quadruple Sculls
Men's quadruple sculls competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held from August 10 to 17, at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. This rowing event is a quadruple scull event, meaning that each boat is propelled by four rowers. The "scull" portion means that each rower uses two oars, one on each side of the boat; this contrasts with sweep rowing in which each rower has one oar and rows on only one side. The competition consisted of multiple rounds. Finals were held to determine the placing of each boat; these finals were given letters with those nearer to the beginning of the alphabet meaning a better ranking. Gymnastics At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Vault
The men's vault competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 9 and 18 at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. The eight competitors (with a maximum of two per nation) with the highest scores in qualifying, among the gymnasts electing to make two vaults, proceeded to the men's vault finals. There, each gymnast performed two vaults; the scores from the final round (ignoring qualification) determined final ranking. Sylwia Gruchała (born 6 November 1981 in Gdynia, Pomorskie) is a Polish fencer. Biography In the team foil she won medals at the world championships in 1998 (bronze), 1999 (silver), 2002 (silver), 2003 (gold) and 2007 (gold) as well as an Olympic silver medal in 2000. In Individual Foil she won a silver medal at the 2003 World Championship as well as an Olympic bronze medal in 2004.
