Arizona's 9th congressional district was created as a result of the United States Census, 2010, 2010 Census. The first candidates ran in the 2012 United States House of Representatives elections, 2012 House elections, and the first representative was seated for the 113th United States Congress, 113th Congress in 2013. Formerly located in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Phoenix area, the 9th district has been in western Arizona since 2023. The Phoenix Metropolitan Area (Metro Phoenix) consists of a valley that has multiple city regions in it. The East Valley is a multi-city region within the Phoenix Metropolitan Area of Arizona. East Valley is a loosely defined region, with differing definition of what constitutes it. PHX East Valley, a project with an area coalition known as the East Valley Partnership, defines the East Valley as an area that encompasses Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, and Tempe. La Paz County is the 15th county in the U.S. state of Arizona, located in the western part of the state. KPNX (channel 12) is a television station licensed to Mesa, Arizona, United States, serving the Phoenix area as an affiliate of NBC. The station is owned by Tegna Inc., and maintains studios at the Republic Media building on Van Buren Street in downtown Phoenix (which also houses formerly co-owned newspaper ''The Arizona Republic''); its transmitter is located atop South Mountain on the city's south side.
