AS Viganello, also known as Viganello Basket was a Switzerland, Swiss men's and women's professional basketball club based in the city of Viganello. The club was played for several years in the Swiss Basketball League, National League A and won the Swiss men's championship in 1980 and the Swiss Basketball Cup, Swiss Men's Cup in 1977 and 1980. History AS Viganello began as a women's team in 1942, in the village of Ticino (now district of the city of Lugano) and in 1943 it also added a men's team. Thanks to the arrival of important players such as Ken Brady, John Fultz and Charlie Yelverton, the men's team began to achieve success. In 1977 Viganello played in the Swiss Basketball Cup, Swiss Cup finals against Pregassona in front of a sold out crowd. Viganello
Viganello is a Quarter (country subdivision), quarter of the city of Lugano, Switzerland. Viganello was formerly a municipality of its own, having been incorporated into Lugano in 2004. It was first recorded in 1300 as ''de Viganello''. The municipality also contained the village Albonago. It had 238 inhabitants in 1783, which increased to 244 in 1808, 319 in 1850, 1477 in 1910, 2163 in 1950 and 5587 in 1990. The Swiss Basketball League, also known as SB League or SBL, is the top-tier professional club basketball league in Switzerland. It is organized by Swiss Basketball. The winners of the SBL are crowned Swiss national basketball champions. Currently, twelve teams compete in the league. Charlie Yelverton
Charlie Yelverton (born December 5, 1948) is a retired American professional basketball player. At a height of 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) tall, he played as shooting guard-small forward. He is a member of the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame. College career Yelverton played college basketball at Fordham, with the Fordham Rams, from 1968 to 1971. He won the Haggerty Award in 1971, and was also an UPI All-American Third Team selection in ( 1971). Professional career Yelverton was drafted 25th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, in the 1971 NBA draft, but only appeared in one NBA season. During a game on February 1, 1972, Yelverton did not participate in pre-game warmups and sat on the bench during the singing on the US national anthem. SP Federale Lugano was a Swiss professional basketball club based in the city of Lugano in the canton of Ticino. History Federale was founded in 1942 but had to wait until the 70s to see the first major successes. The club won in the seventies three national league titles and 2 national Cups. For three seasons, from 1978 to 1980, had as main sponsor the ''SA Luciano Franzosini Chiasso''. In the season 1975-76 Federale participated in the FIBA European Champions Cup as Swiss champion αfter two qualifier against Turkish Beşiktaş and Czechoslovak Dukla Olomouc, reached the quarter-finals where ranked sixth and last with a record of 0-5 wins in a group that included among others Real Madrid, Forst Cantù and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Lugano Tigers are a Swiss professional basketball club that is based in Lugano, Switzerland. The club competes in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), the highest domestic tier. Founded as FN Lugano, the team was re-named to Lugano Snakes in 1999 and to its current name in 2003. History Founded in 1981, with the merging of Federal Lugano and AS Viganello, FV Lugano won the first Swiss Cup in 1982.
