AS Type A2
AS Type A2 is a light car made from 1924 until 1926 by Voiturettes Automobiles A.S. initially at Courbevoie, and subsequently relocated to La Garenne-Colombes where they operated till 1928. History and specifications The manufacturer took at stand at the 19th Paris Motor Show in October 1924 and exhibited a small attractive 2-seater Torpedo (car), "Torpedo" bodied voiturette-roadster with a fashionably tapered tail, and designated as the "AS Type A2" and the "AS Type A2S". The 4-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine was of 1,098 cc capacity and the wheelbase was of just . Proprietary Chapuis-Dornier or C.I.M.E. engines were also offered. There were brakes on all four wheels. The manufacturer's listed price was 17,000 francs. Three years later production came to an end with only a few dozen of the little sports cars sold. A voiturette is a miniature automobile. History ''Voiturette'' was first registered by Léon Bollée in 1895 to name his new motor tricycle. The term became so popular in the early years of the motor industry that it was used by many makers to describe their small cars. The word comes from the French language, French word for "automobile", ''voiture''. Between World War I and World War II light-weight racing cars with engines limited to 1500 cc such as the Alfa Romeo 158/159 Alfetta, the Bugatti Type 13 and the original English Racing Automobiles, ERAs were known as voiturettes. In France, in the years after World War II a type of small three-wheeled vehicle voiturette was produced. In 1990s, voiturette became a French classification for a vehicle weighing less than 350 kilograms (770 lb) empty and carrying a load (i.e. passengers) of not more than 200 kilograms (~440 lb). Courbevoie () is a commune located in the Hauts-de-Seine Department of the Île-de-France region of France. It is in the suburbs of the city of Paris, from the center of Paris. La Garenne-Colombes () is a commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from Notre Dame de Paris which is the center of Paris. It is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe. Name The city used to be part of the neighbouring city of Colombes. At this time, before 1910, it was called "La Garenne de Colombes," which means "Colombes' Garenne." "Garenne" is French for "warren." So the English for "La Garenne-Colombes" could be "Colombes' warren" or "Warren of Colombes"; yet to speakers of all languages the name of the city is officially "La Garenne-Colombes." Torpedo (car)
The torpedo body style was a type of automobile body used from 1908 until the mid-1930s, which had a streamlined profile and a folding or detachable soft top. The design consists of a hood or bonnet line raised to be level with the car's waistline, resulting in a straight beltline from front to back. The name was introduced in 1908 when Captain Theo Masui, the London-based importer of French Gregoire cars, designed a streamlined body and called it "The Torpedo".
