AS Nika
Association Sportive Nika, more commonly known as AS Nika, is a Congolese football club based in Kisangani, Tshopo province and currently playing in the Linafoot Ligue 2, the second level of the Congolese football. Their home games are played at Stade Lumumba. History AS Nika was founded in 1955 as ''FC RUBI'', the name of the river which symbolizes their origin and which is found at the entrance to the city of Buta, by the students of Frères Maristes school from Buta who came to study in Kisangani. Over time, the club has had several names ; ''FC Dieterein'', ''INSS'', ''Espoir'', ''Electronic'' and from 1972 AS Nika. Kisangani (formerly Stanleyville or Stanleystad) is the capital of Tshopo province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Vodacom Ligue 1 is the top division of the Congolese Association Football Federation, the governing body of football (soccer), football in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was created in 1958. In 2013, the highest attendance was set in the match DC Motema Pembe - AS Vita Club, which saw an attendance of 80,000 football fans at Stade des Martyrs. Tshopo
Tshopo is one of the 21 new provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo created in the 2015 repartitioning. It is situated in the north central part of the country on the Tshopo River, for which it is named. Tshopo, Bas-Uele, Haut-Uele, and Ituri provinces are the result of the dismemberment of the former Orientale province. Tshopo was formed from the Tshopo district and the independently administered city of Kisangani which retained its status as a provincial capital.
