ASC Schöppingen is a German association football club from the town of Schöppingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club's greatest success has been winning a league championship in the tier three Oberliga Westfalen 1985–86 and taking part in the promotion round to the 2. Bundesliga. The club also took part in the 1990–91 DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, where it was knocked-out in the first round. Bernard Dietz
Bernard Dietz (born 22 March 1948) is a German former football player and manager. He captained the West Germany national team to victory in the UEFA Euro 1980. Club career A defender in his professional career, Bernard Dietz played in 495 Bundesliga matches for MSV Duisburg and FC Schalke 04, scoring 70 goals in his Duisburg years and seven in his days with Schalke 04 in the top tier of German football. Leaving Duisburg for Schalke in 1982 caused him to feature 34 times (one goal) for the Gelsenkirchen outfit in the 2. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings. The Bezirksliga ( en, County League) is commonly a medium set of amateur divisions set at steps 7, 8 or 9 in the German football league system. The German amateur football championship was a national football competition in Germany organized by the German Football Association (German: Deutscher Fußball-Bund; DFB) and in existence from 1950 to 1998. History Overview The championship was established in 1950 as a counterpart to the German football championship, which was open only to the winners of the tier-one Oberligas. To qualify for the German amateur championship, a club had to play in the highest amateur league of its regional football federation. The majority of these leagues were tier-three leagues. Only in Niedersachsen, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin were these leagues set at the second level.
