ARIA Award For Best Blues And Roots Album
The ARIA Music Award for Best Blues and Roots Album, is an award presented at the annual ARIA Music Awards, which recognises "the many achievements of Aussie artists across all music genres", since 1987. It is handed out by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), an organisation whose aim is "to advance the interests of the Australian record industry." To be eligible, the recording must be an album in the contemporary and traditional blues genres, and contemporary adaptations of Australian traditional music and/or folklore. The submitted work cannot be entered in other genre categories. The accolade is voted for by a judging school, which comprises between 40 and 100 members of representatives experienced in these genres, and is given to a solo artist or group who is either from Australia or an Australian resident. Matt Walker (Australian Musician)
Matt Walker is an ARIA Award-winning Australian blues musician. Career Walker began playing music in public at the age of 14 at the Selby Folk Club. He played at Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Bridgetown Blues Festival, East Coast Blues and Roots Festival until the age of 18.Walker joined The Broderick Smith Band playing dobro, guitar and lap steel and toured extensively around Australia. Walker played on and wrote music for Broderick Smith albums ''My Shiralee'', ''Songster'' and ''Crayon Angels'' from 1994 to 1996. In 1995, Walker recorded ''Live at the Rainbow'' with Ashley Davies on drums, Andrew Entsch on double bass and Jerry Hale on fiddle and guitar before recording ''There's Life'' in 1996. The 14th Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as the ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAS) was held on 24 October 2000 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. ''They Were Better Live : Live at the Central Club Christmas, 1998'' is a double live album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything. The recording was of the band's series of live shows at the Central Club Hotel in Richmond. It was released after the band disbanded and was the band's first live album. Weddings Parties Anything
Weddings, Parties, Anything. was an Australian folk rock band formed in 1984 in Melbourne and continuing until 1999. Their name came from The Clash song "Revolution Rock". Musicologist Billy Pinnell described their first album as the best Australian rock debut since Skyhooks' '' Living in the 70's''. The band was led by Mick Thomas, the only continual member throughout the group's history. The single "Father's Day" was nominated for Single of the Year as well as winning Song of the Year at the 1993 ARIA awards. They were renowned for their energetic live performances and in particular their annual Christmas shows at the Central Club Hotel in Swan Street, Richmond held in the lead up to Christmas Eve every year from the late 1980s to 1998. Kerri Simpson is a blues singer from Melbourne. Her album ''Confessin' the Blues'' was nominated for a 1999 ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album. Predominantly a blues musician, she has also performed country with Kerri Simpson and the Prodigal Sons, gospel with the Gospel Belles and Ska with The Ska Vendors. Jeff Lang (born 9 November 1969) is an Australian guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and music producer. Lang plays various types of guitar, both slide and standard, as well as banjo, mandolin, cümbüş and drums. Backsliders (band)
Backsliders are a three piece Australian blues based band. The current line up consists of guitarist/vocalist Dom Turner and drummer/percussionist Rob Hirst joined on alternating nights by either Brod Smith, Ian Collard or Joe Glover on harmonica. History 1986-2010: Formation In the early 1980s, Dom Turner and harmonica player Rex Hill began gigging around Sydney as an acoustic blues duo. After returning from the United States in 1986, enthused by the idea of blurring the lines between rural and urban blues, Dom began rehearsing a new rural blues band concept with drummer Peter Burgess in duo mode, which moved to the inclusion of Rex Hill on harmonica. The sound drew inspiration from the Mississippi Fred McDowell records where Fred was accompanied by a drummer, or a rural blues version of the sound Beausoleil achieved without bass guitar.
