ANTEL (El Salvador Football Club)
Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, also known as ANTEL was a Salvadoran professional football club perhaps best known for being the first club where the famous El Salvadoran Mágico González played. History The team played in the Primera División de Fútbol de El Salvador for two seasons from 1975 to 1977. After finishing in mid-table after the 1977 season, ANTEL decided to selling their place in the first division to Independiente de San Vicente, effectively ending the club's history as a professional entity. They then slowly went into decline and were renamed ''ANTEL-Telecom'' then again renamed ''Telecom FC''. The club ceased to exist after the 2006/2007 season, after their main sponsor and company they were named after pulled all support due to financial pressure leaving Telecom FC to be dissolved. ANTEL ( es, Administración Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, lit=National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's government-owned telecommunications company, founded in 1974 as a separate legal entity after spinning off the telecommunications division of UTE, which had the monopoly of landline telephony since 1931. Jorge Alberto González Barillas (born 13 March 1958), popularly known as ''El Mágico'' (The Magical One), is a Salvadoran former footballer who played mainly as a forward. At the club level, he played mainly for FAS and Spain's Cádiz in a 24-year senior career. Dogged by his self-admitted and often-reported lack of discipline, he was often hailed as the greatest and most skilled footballer ever produced by El Salvador, and as one of the greatest players from the CONCACAF region. González represented the El Salvador national team for more than two decades, taking part in the 1982 World Cup and the 1998 Gold Cup. The ''Primera División'' of the (''Professional Football League''), more commonly known as ''La Liga Mayor'' or ''La Primera'', is the top professional association football, football league in El Salvador. It was established in 1969, and in 2011 had 10 clubs. Initially the league was run as a year-long tournament, but since 1998 there are two tournaments each year, much like in many other football leagues in the Americas. The Apertura season runs from August to December, while the Clausura season runs from February to July. Competition format La Liga Mayor follows the usual double Round-robin tournament, round-robin format. José Norberto Huezo Montoya (born 6 June 1956) is a retired football player from El Salvador who represented his country at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. Club career Huezo started his career at UES and played for ANTEL before joining Atlético Marte in 1976. He then played in Mexico, but returned to Marte only to try his luck abroad again when he moved to Spanish side Palencia. He also played for Cartagena FC but returned to Marte again in 1985. He left after a year for Costa Rican outfit Herediano with whom he won a league title and then for Guatemalan side Jalapa. He finished his career at FAS.
