Amos-5
Amos-5 ( he, עמוס 5) was an Israeli commercial communications satellite, part of the AMOS series of satellites. It was developed and built for Spacecom by Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev (NPO PM), the largest Russian satellite producer, at a cost of US$157 million. The satellite was positioned at the 17° East longitude in the geostationary orbit. It was launched on 11 December 2011, 11:17:00 UTC from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, atop a Proton-M / Briz-M launch vehicle. It provided coverage over the continent of Africa, as well as Europe and the Middle East. Mission Following failure of power generator 1, generator 2 was activated in May 2012. Power generator 2 also developed faults in September 2012 and October 2013 and the satellite's initial lifespan of 15 years was expected to be shortened by 11 months. Spacecom, or Space Communication (), is an Israeli communications satellite operator in the Middle East, European Union and North America headquartered in the city of Ramat Gan, Israel. Spacecom operates two satellites at orbital position 4° West – Amos-3, AMOS-3 and AsiaSat 8, AMOS-7, one satellite at orbital position 65° East – Amos-4, AMOS-4, and one satellite at orbital position 17° East – Amos-5, AMOS-5. History Spacecom was established in 1993 with a defined goal of marketing AMOS-1 (satellite), AMOS-1, a newly built communication satellite manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). AsiaSat 2
AsiaSat 2 was a Hong Kong communications satellite, which was owned, and was initially operated, by the Hong Kong based Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company. It was positioned in geostationary orbit at a longitude of 17° East of the Greenwich Meridian, on lease to Spacecom. It spent most of its operational life at 100.5° East, from where it was used to provide fixed satellite services, including broadcasting, audio and data transmission, to Asia and the Pacific Ocean. AMOS-17
AMOS-17 is an Israeli commercial communications satellite, part of the AMOS series of satellites. History Spacecom, the AMOS satellites operator, announced in December 2016 that it has signed a US$161 million contract with Boeing to build AMOS-17, which is to replace the failed AMOS-5 satellite. Satellite description AMOS-17 is a multi-band high-throughput satellite. It features a Ka-band, Ku-band anc C-band communications payload. It was built on the BSS-702MP satellite bus, transmitting in the Ka-band, Ku-band, and C-bands. It is a replacement for AMOS-5 and provides coverage over the continent of Africa, Europe and Middle East. AMOS-4 (satellite)
AMOS-4 is an Israeli commercial communications satellite, operated by Spacecom Satellite Communications, Tel Aviv-based, part of the AMOS series of satellites. History Spacecom, the AMOS satellites operator, announced in 2007 that it has signed an agreement to build and launch AMOS-4, with Israel Aerospace Industries. IAI constructed the satellite for approximately US$365 million. Spacecom paid US$100 million for AMOS-4. The Israeli government paid Spacecom US$265 million generated from a pre-launch deal to supply it with services on AMOS-4 over the satellite's full 12 year life span. The Ekspress (Russian: ) is a highly flexible satellite bus designed and manufactured by ISS Reshetnev. It is an unpressurized bus originally designed for GEO, but that has been adapted for medium Earth orbit and to highly elliptical orbit.
