The Anugerah Musik Indonesia ( 'Indonesian Music Awards'), also known as AMI or colloquially AMI Awards, is an annual Indonesian music award ceremony to recognize outstanding achievements in improving the quality and quantity of artists in the mainly Indonesian-language music industry. It has been compared to the American Grammy Awards and British Brit Awards. It provides recognition of the music industry similarly as other entertainment awards such as the Panasonic Gobel Awards (television) and Festival Film Indonesia (motion pictures). Kroncong (pronounced "kronchong"; id, Keroncong, nl, Krontjong) is the name of a ukulele-like instrument and an Indonesian musical style that typically makes use of the kroncong (the sound ' comes from this instrument, so the music is called ''kroncong''). Tantowi Yahya (born 29 October 1960 in Palembang) is an Indonesian artist, presenter and politician who is a former Ambassador of Indonesia to New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga. Asosiasi Industri Rekaman Indonesia (ASIRI) (English: Recording Industry Association of Indonesia) is a trust that represents the recording industry interests in Indonesia. It was established in 1978 and represents 84 member labels, which distribute around 95% of the music sold in Indonesia. The Indonesian Film Festival (Indonesian: Festival Film Indonesia, 'FFI') is an annual awards ceremony organised by the Indonesian Film Board and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to celebrate cinematic achievements in the Indonesian film industry.
